tional in time for the 2016 season. The compound articulated locomotive is ex- pected to be a perfect fit for WMSR’s 16-mile line that features numerous curves and grades. With 1309 in serv- ice, WMSR can then concentrate on a full rebuild for ex-Lake Superior & Ish- peming 2-8-0 No. 734. The locomotive was loaded onto a
TTX flatcar on July 9, and departed Baltimore on July 23. CSX hauled the locomotive to Cumberland, Md., where WMSR crew will begin the process of teardown so they can determine what repairs need to be made. For details visit

After spending several months running around the eastern Pennsylvania coal re- gion in Santa Fe paint, Reading & North- ern’s four rebuilt GP30 locomotives (classified by R&N as “GP39RN”) are in the process of being painted to honor the old Reading Lines. R&N number 2531 was the first out of the shop and took its maiden run from Port Clinton to Reading, Penn., on September 1. The train is seen at Reading making up its train to head back to Port Clinton.

IC, Central Station was used by the Rock Island, Norfolk & Western, Frisco, Yazoo & Mississippi Valley, and later, the Louisville & Nashville. IC was the only remaining tenant
when the station was transferred to Amtrak in 1971. Seeing only limited use, Central station fell into disrepair until it was acquired by the Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA). The renovation was completed in 1999, and the station is now served by Amtrak’s City of New Orleans as well as MATA heritage trolley line. Amtrak’s Exhibit Train, Canadian National’s executive train, and Norfolk Southern’s Exhibit Car all took part in the weekend celebration. Amtrak’s Great Dome returns to Adirondack
Amtrak’s former Great Northern full- length dome car will once again return
to upstate New York for the peak fall foliage season. The Great Dome will be scheduled to operate on the Adirondack northbound (Train 69) on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Mondays September 25 through November 3, and southbound (Train 68) Fridays, Sundays, and Tues- days September 26 through November 4. Due to restrictive clearances on the Hudson Line into Penn Station, the dome car operates on the Albany-Mon- treal segment of the Adirondack along the former Delaware & Hudson main line route that skirts scenic Lake Champlain. Car 10031 was constructed by Budd
in 1955 as Ocean View and was as- signed to GN’s Empire Builder. It was conveyed to Amtrak in 1971, renovated in 1985, and was assigned to the Auto Train until 1994. A second refurbishing program took place in 1999, and since then the car has been assigned to Am- trak services nationwide. Railway Museum
On June 21, The Lake Shore Railway His- torical Society hosted their annual “Night at the Railway Museum” event in North East, Penn. NetzlofDesign was on hand to provide lights and actors for the night photo shoot featuring which featured two historic General Electric diesels from the museum’s collection. U-25B No. 2500 is the first of 60 units ordered by New York Cen- tral, and B32-8 #3563 is one of 45 units built for Norfolk Southern (and the only Dash-8 in preservation).
