Italy - Cash Handling

The successful manufacturer of change machines in the Italian market, VNE, has been utilising the Merkur Dispenser 100 banknote recycler from Merkur Gaming for many years, helping the Merkur Dispenser 100 to become a household name for banknote recycling in Italy. The ability to securely store and pay back up to 100 ban- knotes in three separate denominations answers all the banknote recycling needs of operators.

ITALY - CPI DELIVERS IN SPADES AT RIMINI ENADA Crane Payment Innovations, born from the 2013 Crane Co. acquisition of MEI, exhibited its solutions for the European gaming market at the ENADA SPRING show in Rimini. The stand featured products from the CashCode, Money Controls and NRI brands of Crane Payment Solutions, as well as MEI’s new SCR banknote recycler.

Visitors to the stand were presented with a range of AES- encrypted solutions that will meet the needs of the new Comma 6a+ legislation due for introduction on all new Italian AWP machines towards the end of 2014. These products, produced in conjunction with gameboard manufacturers to comply with ACMI standard recommendations for the Comma 6a+ market, included the Money Controls SCH5aes, Crane Payment Solutions v2 colibriaes and NRI h2 nanoaes.

The new AES standard products, which have been positively received by the industry, add additional value to a range of products that already delivers real benefits to customers. The SCH5 hopper offers fast payout in single or stream mode, at a rate of up to 8 coins per second. Meanwhile, the v2 colibri offers best-in-class MFT coin validation and a high level of flexibility thanks to various models and sorters. The MEI SCR banknote recycler was also well-received at ENADA, particularly amongst the change machine producers who found it could offer superior performance and security.

AUSTRIA - STYRIAN ACT AND ORDINANCE UPDATES The Austrian government has drafted new orders amending its Gaming Machine Ordinance. The new legislation concerns pay-outs from gaming machines in casinos and video lottery terminals. All automated games of chance will now be elec- tronically connected to a database belonging to Bundesrechenzentrum. The option to forward data records from the Bundesrechenzentrum to the tax authorities will be created, enabling more effective inspection and monitoring activities.

Furthermore, the European Commission has been notified about the Styrian Gaming Machine and Slot Machine Act. The government states that a gambling prohibition in Styria would not be sensible, as the federal states Carinthia, Burgenland, Lower Austria and Upper Austria have also decided against a ban. The Act contains rules both for gam- ing machines and slot machines, and aims to create strict, justified, basic conditions to protect gamers and young per- sons. It limits the installation and operations of gaming arcades (a minimum of 10 and maximum of 50 gaming machines), and simplifies the regulations on slot machines by reducing them to an essential number. The maximum stake will be €10 per game, the maximum prize €10,000 per game.

This proven solution has been improved even fur- ther with the introduction of the Merkur Dispenser 100 Gold. Updated validation technolo- gy, optimised sensors built into the note transport, new motors for increased longevity – all these factors and more make the decision to choose the Merkur Dispenser 100 Gold as the preferred ban- knote recycling solution that much simpler.

The management at VNE took the opportunity at the ENADA Rimini to sign a long-term contract for the supply of the Merkur Dispenser 100 Gold for their change machines.

Kai Bünger, Area Manager Merkur Gaming, was absolutely delighted to seal this major deal at the ENADA Rimini and stated: “As our long-standing customer, VNE has many thousands of change machines in the market fitted with the Merkur

Casinos Austria Int. and Casino Sopron celebrate 25 years

HUNGARY Casinos Austria International’s Casino Sopron, which has been successfully operating a casino in the Hungarian border town of Sopron since the 1990s, has just celebrated its 25th anniversary.

CAI holds a 75 per cent stake in Casino Sopron, which is run in cooperation with a Hungarian partner and moved to bigger new premises at the end of 2013.

Casino Sopron has been capti- vating its guests in its new 1,300 square meter location in the Mediterrano complex since November 2013. The complex is brand-new, modern and home to a state-of-the-art gaming opera- tion. An extra-large LED sign on the exterior of the building draws immediate attention and 150 free parking spaces are available for casino guests – all the more rea- son to spend an evening at the popular casino. Casino Sopron

offers guests an extensive choice of nine tables and 201 slots.

CAI Managing Director Alexander Tucek said: “Casino Sopron has been a showpiece operation in an attractive loca- tion near the border for 25 years and has always attracted both local and tourist visitors alike,” said Mr. Tucek. “The new-look casino in the new Mediterrano complex is modern and attrac- tive – and provides everything our guests are looking for.”

Mr. Tucek was cautious about the upcoming call for tenders for casino licenses in Hungary: “You can never ultimately know what will happen. It is election year in Hungary, so everything is open,” he explained. “But we will of course be looking to participate in the call for tenders. After all, there are 11 casino licenses under tender, and that is an interesting prospect.”

Croatia The Croatian government has unveiled a new Gaming, Prize Games and Entertainment Games Act, creating conditions to improve the operation of games of chance by a more efficient collection of taxes and fees, and a more equal distribution of gaming revenues. The Act also introduces consumer protection measures from illegal operators and introduces measures to combat problem gambling, protect minors and vulnerable groups, and ensures more effective supervision. The requirements apply to lottery games, casino games, amusement arcade games and betting, as well as the operation of prize and entertainment games.
