Bufkin has more than 30 years’ experience in the insurance industry and has served as director of Swiss Re New Markets, and as chairman, president and CEO of Swiss Re subsidiary, Facility Insurance Corporation (FIC) and Facility Insurance Holding Corporation (FIHC). Over the course of her accomplished career, she has held additional executive positions in the insurance industry, most notably with Sedgwick Payne Company and E.W. Blanch Company.

“The biggest challenge is the one confronting us immediately—

the present and the future. Specifically, how do we stay relevant as an industry? Globally, new approaches to existing risks and emergent challenges require us to rally fresh thinking but also strain our conventional apparatus.”

In her new role, Bufkin is dedicated to providing an exceptional service to clients. “We are participating with our clients to deliver the value proposition of their companies,” she says. “I

am also inspired by the scope of Guy Carpenter—the talent and commitment of the people energises and inspires me.”

Bufkin is keen to see the company continue to develop its people

and move forward within a changing industry. “The insurance industry of tomorrow that we build today must brand itself, authentically and not rhetorically, as innovative and inclusive,” she says. “We have new insights about where talent resides and where to access it. We need a proactive strategy to include visibility, sponsorship and respect.”

“Globally, new approaches to existing risks and emergent challenges require us to rally fresh thinking but also strain our conventional apparatus.”
