PrOFILE Name: Wendy Lane

Company: Willis Group Job:

Board of directors

Timeline: 2004—Board of directors, Willis Group

1992—Chairman, Lane Holdings

1981—Director, Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette Securities Corporation

Wendy Lane has been on the board of directors at Willis Group since April 2004. She has been chairman of Lane Holdings, an investment firm, since 1992. Prior to forming Lane Holdings, Lane was a principal and managing director of Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette Securities Corporation, an investment banking firm, serving in these and other positions from 1981 to 1992.

“My highlight at Willis has been the first year of new leadership under Dominic Casserley,” she says. “It was characterised by a smooth transition with a focus on growth, under a new CEO with a broad financial perspective, backed by a strong, insurance experienced deputy CEO. I’m very proud of that.

“Outside of Willis, the highlight has been being able to reinvent

myself a couple of times from being an investment banker, to an investor and then to being a director.”

Lane says the biggest challenge of her career to date has been

the repositioning of Willis for growth, enabled by financial and accounting steps and a new compensation scheme design.

“I’m very much aligned with Dominic to make Willis the

best broker, with the strongest analytics capabilities to really differentiate itself from the competition,” she says. “On a personal level, I continue to seek intellectual growth and want to continue adding value to the companies I work with.”

“Prior to forming Lane Holdings, Lane was a principal and managing director of Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette Securities Corporation, an investment banking firm.”
