Rebecca Roberts is responsible for underwriting primarily US property catastrophe business for Renaissance Reinsurance. She has 19 years of experience in reinsurance and joined RenaissanceRe in 2001.
Roberts began her career as a reinsurance underwriter at
Vesta Fire Insurance Corporation, and later worked as a senior underwriter for HartRe Company. She is qualified as a chartered property casualty underwriter and an associate in reinsurance.
“The day I was offered a job at RenaissanceRe was the highlight of my career,” says Roberts. “This was a company with a reputation for excellence and an outstanding track record of superior performance. Along with the company’s relationships based on excellent customer service, RenaissanceRe’s technical capabilities and integrated systems provide employees with the ability to maximise return on capital. That commitment to world- class customer service is one of the aspects I appreciate the most about the company.”
Battling her way to the top of the industry, Roberts says that
the biggest challenge has been the changing dynamics within the sector.
“The ever-changing dynamics of our industry is a challenge, but it’s also what motivates me,” she says. “The increasing convergence
of the capital markets and traditional reinsurance, for example, is one of the prevalent themes in our market, currently.
“RenaissanceRe offers a suite of innovative products to match
risk with efficient capital and it is exciting to be able to bring these proven products to our clients in today’s market, as well as to work on new ones.”
Heading into 2014, Roberts is keen to continue adding value to
RenRe. “I have been with the company for 12 years now and it is in better shape than ever,” she says. “One of the ways I would like to continue to add value is to play a bigger role in helping women in our company reach their highest potential.”
“It is exciting to be able to bring these proven products to our clients in today’s market, as well as to work on new ones.”
