With more than 30 years of experience in the reinsurance industry, Heather Goodhew has extensive experience in broking, underwriting and managing international reinsurance business. Her career began as a broker with CT Bowring, before moving to underwriting in 1987. Prior to joining Aspen Re, she spent 10 years at XL Re.


“My move to Aspen Re has been a tremendous experience both


professionally and personally,” says Goodhew. “The breadth and diversity of the positions I have undertaken has been fascinating and as COO, I am able to play a key role in setting and executing the strategy for the business on a global basis.”


Goodhew joined the company in 2005 to lead Aspen Re’s


development in the international property facultative market before taking on the managing director role, which saw her responsible for reinsurance business in Asia Pacific and the Middle East.


A familiar face in the industry, Goodhew explains that reaching


the top has not come without its challenges. “After a long career in underwriting, my appointment as COO for Aspen Re presented me with a tremendous opportunity but also some challenges,”


she says. “The role requires a different skillset and the sheer breadth of responsibilities means that there are always new issues and fresh challenges to be addressed. When combined with my board position for AIUK, my role is extremely interesting and rewarding.”


Goodhew aspires to provide the best service that she can for Aspen Re. “There is still much to be done in my current COO role,” she says. “Aspen Re is a dynamic and fast-moving business and my priority is to make a valuable contribution towards the future success of the business.”
