Exposing technology
HELD LAST month, Midwich’s Technology Exposed lived up to its name, with plenty of innovations on show, particularly in the area of displays. The event, which spanned two days in September at Ascot Racecourse, drew an attendance of around 1,000 people, viewing products from 70 vendors. Laser technology was a theme common to a number of stands. Sony was showing the VPL- FHZ55, its 3LCD laser projector for education and conference applications. Damien Weissenburger (pictured), head of presentation and communication at Sony Europe, told us: “We’re seeing stunning demand for the product… a lot of universities in Europe are putting our laser technology into their auditoriums and conference rooms.” As we mentioned last month, the show featured LG’s Hecto laser short-throw projection TV. The projector
UK Red Bull launch for Sennheiser wireless PA
SENNHEISER recently held the UK launch of its LSP 500 Pro wireless PA system at the Infiniti Red Bull Racing HQ, Milton Keynes. The company became official audio supplier to the F1 team at the beginning of 2013 and provides solutions for Red Bull racing’s factory debriefs, driver interviews and hospitality requirements, including use of in-ear systems for the pitside
garage link systems and other wireless systems for VIP hospitality requirements. Primary team driver for Infiniti Red Bull Racing Sebastian Vettel first used the LSP 500 Pro in May at his press conference (pictured) at the Monaco Grand Prix. The system uses an iPad app that connects via WLAN to control up to 20 UHF- connected speakers, eliminating the need for a
mixing console and wires. The app handles aspects such as volume control and equaliser adjustments. It also shows speaker battery life status and enables speakers to be positioned on the graphic interface to reflect the speaker positions in the room. Users can then select where the audience is in a room to produce optimum levels for the multiple speaker set-ups.

sits just 22cm from the 100in screen. The 1080p Hecto is designed for use in home cinema, corporate and higher education applications. Another company offering laser technology was Panasonic with its new laser- LED solid state light source projectors, which also offer around 20,000 hours’ maintenance-free life. Samsung was showing its 55in OLED TV, designed with a slightly curved screen for a more immersive experience. One innovative feature of the TV is its use of active stereoscopic glasses with inbuilt earbuds to enable two viewers to watch different programmes (across the whole of the screen) at the same time.
Also from Samsung was its 95in edgelit LED panel, which is the world’s largest. Sharp was displaying a neat
prototype: a double-sided LED- backlit LCD display, covered with safety glass, all in a unit just 35mm thick. The unit can
