SOLUTIONS: AOSTA REGIONAL THEATRE, AOSTA

An ETC Element lighting and Smartfade desk are in the main control room

used as monitors or for front- fill needs.

Alongside the Tascam DM4800 mixer and video and lighting control set-ups, the main control room also hosts a pair of double interpreter booths equipped with Sennheiser SDC 8200 ID gooseneck mic interpreter units. This is connected to a SDC 8200 CU digital conference and interpretation system, via which the signals of the languages translated are fed out through SR 2020- D digital RF transmitters. Attendees are provided with HDE 2020-D digital stethoset receivers, on which they can select the appropriate language. As well as delegates’

VGA/HDMI/Control and interpreter monitors and HD coax (RG6) for the cameras. The upgrade to the original tender also eliminated the stage lighting patch panel, in favour of ETC’s Sensor ThruPower dimmers (the first two 30-module racks installed in Italy).

Orlandi states: “The lighting

control system caters for the control and power requirements of fixtures with on-board dimming facilities (moving head units, LED fixtures and matrices). Operators can use the switch on each of the 120 ETC Sensor ThruPower dimmer channels to select those for normal use and those for direct control. When the switch is in the On position, power is routed directly from the breaker to the output without passing through the dimmer or choke. This prevents the control system from turning off the output voltage – even if the control module is removed from the system. While in the Dim position, module operation is controlled as a relay or a dimmer. As well as the main ETC lighting console (a 40-fader Element), there is a 24-fader Smartfade desk, mainly used for back-up, but also as main desk on small shows, as it can be positioned wherever required, thanks to its compact dimensions.” Apart from 18 ETC PARnels installed above the mobile front sections of the orchestra’s acoustic ceiling,

the entire light rig features LDR fixtures (or Luci della Ribalta, to give the Italian manufacturer its full name): 10 Nota Plus 1,000/1,200W PCs, 10 Tono Plus 2,000W PCs, 18 Nota Plus 1,000W Fresnels, 16 Nota 1,000/1,200W profiles, 18 Inno 1,000W asymmetric floods and a Canto 1,200W followspot.

SPACE CONSTRAINTS The main K-array sound system provided the perfect solution to the lack of space (due to the mobile acoustic shell extensions) and consists of two hangs, each with a pair of KH15 self- powered line-array elements and a slim-line KS4 self- powered dipole sub flown below. On stage, four Ecler Verso 12P enclosures are

gooseneck mics, the venue’s all-Sennheiser selection includes lavalier, handheld wireless and cardioid mics (for recording on the Tascam DV-RA1000 HD PCM audio recorder/mastering units). Audio distribution is via an Ecler DAC 110E and feedback kept under control with an Audioplus FBE 212 digital feedback suppressor. Daniele concludes: “As well as using the main control room, visiting productions can connect their consoles to the in-house systems in three other positions: two in the theatre and one alongside the stage, so well-designed analogue and digital cable runs were of key importance. Four on-stage floor boxes give access to conference system cables and connections for the pre- cabled speakers’ table.” Room B, on the ground floor near the foyer, doubles as a rehearsal facility (ballet dancers are catered for with barres) and a small (90-seat) meeting room with its own control set-up, and an AV link with the main room.
