looking at ‘What makes a good lighting programmer’ at 14:00 on 6 October, followed by ‘Wireless lighting – interference free?’ at the same time on the following day. A highlight on Tuesday evening looks set to be ‘Theatre versus architecture and technology’ a discussion between Richard Eyre, the National Theatre’s former artistic director, and theatre consultant Richard Pilbrow, looking at the design process behind the venue’s three stages and its innovative technical installations as the NT celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The Avolites Aftershow

Party, co-hosted by DiGiCo, Martin Audio and Amptown, also returns to PLASA for 2013. Taking place on Monday 7 October from 20:00-02:00 at the TROXY club close to the ExCeL, the theme for this year’s fancy dress is Rock to Opera. Steve Warren, managing

director, Avolites, said: “PLASA London always provides not only a great exhibition and outstanding seminar programme, but also the very best in the equally important after-hours networking opportunities and entertainment. We have an exciting new venue for this year’s party, and we know people are going to love it!”

AROUND 250 exhibitors are expected to take part in the first PLASA London show to be held at the ExCeL Centre in the city’s Docklands. Running from 6 to 9 October, the event will also host an extensive education programme covering all aspects of the entertainment technology market. after a few years’ hiatus as it is the ideal platform from which to launch our new Professional Audio business. We’re also delighted to present the first public showcase of our club speakers at PLASA.” Pioneer will demonstrate its new GS- WAVE and XY Series speakers in the AudioLab arena, theatre and interactive lab at 18:30 on 8 October. The AudioLab Arena is a purpose-built space for large- format loudspeaker demos, shoot-outs of club sound and PA systems, and private exclusive demo rooms, while the AudioLab Theatre is an audio school with three expert

classes; Live Sound, Installed Sound and The Sound Business. New for 2013 is AudioLab Interactive, a myth- busting laboratory where visitors can see live experiments on a range of pro- audio equipment. Created in conjunction with audio consultancy RH Consulting, AudioLab Interactive gathers experts from around the globe to test pro-audio theory. The Installed Sound stream

will host a Network Shootout in the AudioLab at 16:00 on 6 October, before asking ‘Do you trust acoustic models?’ at 11:00 the next morning. Away from audio, PLASA London will host sessions

Art-Osc is a new protocol that allows remote interfacing of lighting control data via smartphones or tablets. It will be available in the public domain on a royalty-free basis, following in the footsteps of Art-Net, the Ethernet protocol that Artistic Licence gave to the industry 10 years ago. Key to this year’s ETC stand

will be the company’s newest lighting fixtures – the Source Four LED CYC and the Desire D22. The Source Four LED CYC evenly distributes light across the cyclorama, so no gaps or seams are visible between the luminaires. To demonstrate this, a huge cyclorama will be mounted above the ETC stand – white on one side, to show the coverage, and multicoloured on the other, to show the versatility and efficacy of the Lustr+ seven- colour mixing system. The 20cm, 3kg Desire D22,

meanwhile, completes the Selador range bringing efficient wash lighting to theatres, museums, lobbies, retail outlets and other installations where low- profile fixtures are a must. Despite its size, it has the same quality colour mixing, smooth dimming, intuitive user interface and standalone operation that the Desire line is known for. PLASA will also host the launch of the Cobalt desk,
