COMM-TEC S14 Solutions Day moves into fifth gear
THE FIFTH annual COMM-TEC S14 Solutions Day featured the worldwide launch of Barco’s latest projector series. The one-and-a-half-day
exhibition welcomed guests to the distributor’s headquarters in Uhingen, Germany on 17 September for the launch of Barco’s three new corporate projector ranges – Impress, Present and Collaborate (see Products, page 60). The following day, 38 of the German AV distribution company’s partners, including recently signed brands TVOne and ClearOne, exhibited their wares to more than 260 integrators, consultants and resellers. The day kicked off with a keynote from InfoComm International senior vice president Duffy Wilbert, who emphasised the importance of keeping up with industry trends such as the ubiquity of video and the ever-present Cloud.
US AES announces audio-over-IP interop standard
THE AUDIO Engineering Society (AES) has
announced the publication of a new engineering standard for networked or streaming audio-over-IP interoperability.
AES said in a statement:
“A number of networked audio systems have been developed to support high- performance media networking, but until now there were no
recommendations for operating these systems in an interoperable manner. “This standard provides
comprehensive interoperability recommendations in the areas of synchronisation, media clock identification, network transport, encoding and streaming, session description and connection management.”
The society defines high-
performance media networks as supporting professional quality audio (16-bit, 44.1kHz and higher) with low latencies (less than 10ms) compatible with live sound reinforcement. The project was initiated
by the AES in December 2010 under the project name AES-X192, but the new standard is named AES67-2013.

The event, which is backed
by industry bodies InfoComm, CEDIA and ISE, has seen year- on-year growth since its inauguration in 2008. Rainer Sprinzl, managing director of COMM-TEC, spoke about the show’s impact on the industry over the years: “The way in which this show has grown is proven by Barco selecting COMM-TEC as the worldwide launch for its new projector range. This is a huge step in the right direction for the show. And we feel [Barco’s]
really anything else out there that offers the complete networking day that we offer. There are other companies hosting events in Germany at this precise point in time, but that will only cover one topic. Here there is a multitude of technology and discussions taking place that ensure everyone is up to date with what we’re doing and what they are doing. We cover everything necessary in one and a half days.”
