New Roadnames & Numbers PROTO 2000®

- In Stock Tsunami® WALTHERSPROTO® FASTFACTS™

EMD celebrated New Years Day 1966 by introducing six new SD series locos including the SD45, with an enormous 20-cylinder power plant cranking out 3600 horsepower. Timing couldn’t have been better as American railroads experienced a surge in traffic and were ready to modernize. The SD45 proved popular, and 1,260 were built through late 1971, when production switched over to SD45-2. Original owners began to retire units in the 1980s, but many were rebuilt and sold to regional railroads. Several are now preserved.
