MY TO WEAR DEREK SAWAYA

Khross is an international lifestyle clothing brand based out of Boston that focuses on following your dreams, while promoting dance music from inspirational rising artists across the world. CEO Derek Sawaya has been seeking out the most driven, talented, and positive musicians across the planet, which has taken him across 6 countries over the past 6 months. While chatting with DJ Mag, Derek says “It’s been an incredible ride so far, and I’m always looking for people to join in on the fun. We only work with musicians if they do/ have 3 things: great music, belief in our positive message, and hustle hard to get their name out there. Over the course of 5 years, we’ve developed a family of hungry, passionate, and talented-as-all-hell individuals and groups that believe in us as much as we believe in them.” The Khross roster is now clocking in at 27 DJ’s and producers from 6 countries, including rising and established talent from David A. in Montreal and Seven Lions in Santa Barbara.

“Khross is a lifestyle apparel brand and our message is simple: live inspired. We believe in doing what inspires you, and inspiring others to do so as well. It started December of 2007 when I was working at a local PacSun outlet near Boston. I found an opportunity making shirt designs for a co-worker, and then from there I decided to make my own brand and tried to give it a powerful meaning. We got our hands into music immediately, originally in metal and metalcore and had some interesting people work with us like musicians from All That Remains and Shadows Fall. We got into snowboarding, skiing, surfi ng, skimboarding, etc. We even hosted Massachusetts’s largest skimboarding event. It was a few years in that we started working with dance music artists and then the rest was history. We decided to steadily focus on electronic music, the great musicians, and the lifestyle that accompanies it because there are so many positive qualities that we as a team and business resonate with. From the moment we decided to focus on DJ’s and producers, things started getting bigger and bigger, and it’s been wild so far. It goes further than just music though; our entire team is composed of dreamers, creatives, and otherwise extremely dynamic people that are looking for opportunities to foster their dreams and get exposure. We give aspiring videographers, photographers, animators (etc) opportunities to work with musicians hands on. We also get our interns right in the action with us, and we make it as fun as we can the whole way through.”
