SUPERSTAR VJ SHOW SPOTLIGHT: FG RADIO CONCERT AT LE GRAND

PALAIS IN PARIS, FRANCE. This month we thought we’d show a recent event we had the pleasure of producing live visuals for. Taboo (Black Eyed Peas) took to the stage with Alex Gaudino to perform a track they’ve made ‘I Don’t Wanna Dance’ (which incidently is No.1 in the French Dance Chart). This prestigeous concert for FG Radio was hosted in a truly stun- ning building, which provided a backdrop of sheer beauty.

Si Edwards aka the Visual Jedi produced a visual mix for the 2 track live PA which included ‘I Gotta Feeling’, both songs had the 10,000+ crowd going crazy. Visuals provided for both tracks included elements of the ‘actual’ music videos

combined with custom animations that looked fantastic on the giant LED wall. Equipment: Serato Video, Grand VJ, Vestax PadONE Controller

TECH CORNER

The ability to bridge technologies together has been a monumental step in creating music, with technologies like Serato and Ableton’s “The Bridge”.

For this month’s VJ Tech Corner, we will be taking a look at a monu- mental piece of technology that allows us to share frames with amongst a variety of applications that support Syphon.

Syphon is an open source Mac OS X technology that allows appli- cations to share frames - full frame rate video or stills - with one another in realtime. Now you can leverage the expressive power of a plethora of tools to mix, mash, edit, sample, texture-map, synthe- size, and present your imagery using the best tool for each part of the job. Syphon gives you fl exibility to break out of single-app solutions and mix creative applications to suit your needs.

Syphon is designed to be effi cient and will not duplicate resources unnecessarily, keeping your frame rate and best interests in mind. Instead of running multiple computers to achieve multiple VJ systems, now you can run multiple applications with infi nite pos- sibilities.

An ever-growing number of Syphon-enabled applications now exist, plus plugin support for Quartz Composer,

FreeFrame GL, Max MSP Jitter and Unity Pro.
