Sebastian: My synths are good… I can do my own synths and I can mix them so that they sound good, but then Alex came and was like “Yo dude, your synths are awesome, but your mixing sucks.” [laughs]. So he did the mixing and then I did the synths and then I started learning his mixing skills. He has rules: compressor has to be first and then EQ then that… and then that. I would do compressor last and distortion first and Alex would be like, “No dude that is wrong.” So I’d just be like, “Okay sounds good.” So it’s back and forth all the time; we are sharing our skills so that we get better.
We hear that one of the best parts of going on tour is the food. What do you guys find to be your go-to restaurant when you’re traveling the world?
Alex: Most of our favorite restaurants are here in the States. We have Catch in New York, Akiko’s in San Francisco for sushi, that’s amazing. I think that there is a place in Ohio called Marina, that’s amazing too.
Sebastian: We could go all the way into Canada. There’s The Keg. I don’t know why we love it, but we love it so much. Last time we were there, like 2 months ago, we ate there five nights in a row. I don’t know why! Everything there is like steak, salad, and asparagus. I don’t know, there’s just something about it that we love.
A lot of artists have a certain alcoholic beverage sitting next to their equipment while onstage. What drink always appears on your rider?
Alex: Champagne and champagne. It’s the one thing that is always with us I guess. For non-alcoholic we like Coke Zero. Just the usual mixers. We’re pretty simple, but we’ll let the promoters be the judge of that.
2012 was quite a successful year for Cazzette. “Beam Me Up” reached the top of the charts; you performed at a few huge festivals and released the first 2 parts of your album. Now that 2012 has ended and 2013 has begun, how do you plan to challenge yourselves this year? Also, what are you most looking forward to in 2013? If given the chance, who would you most like to get into the studio with this year?
Alex: Just moving on production wise I think. Just keep playing more shows, bigger shows, and just evolving as artists’. Also, developing our sound.
Sebastian: Like I said before, it’s the time when we get new ideas. Tomorrow we might come up with some crazy idea and the next month it’s there in the stage production or in the music production. As for who we would like to do a collab with, I don’t want to say anything cheesy like everyone else does, like, “Oh I want to be with the Beatles.” They are geniuses, but I don’t want to say that.
Alex: I’d like to work with Max Morgan maybe. I know he’s pop, but still.
Sebastian: Yeah he’s pretty inspiring if you read his story and know what he has done. But yeah maybe… Kanye West. I don’t know if that’s cheesy here, but we are so inspired by his music, how he makes drums, samples, etc. It’s unpredictable. Yeah I think Skrillex has a collab with him right now; I can’t wait for that. That must be sick work.
The crowd at the Pi Kappa chapter house chants, “One more song! One more song!” As both Sebastian and Alex begin to walk out from behind the DJ booth. Cazzette answers the crowd by cueing up, their infamous club banger, “Beam Me Up,” which makes the crowd wallow in chaos. With sweat dripping from bodies and fists pump- ing high in the air, the students at Indiana University were not ready to end this two- day album release party. Good vibes encompassed the room and all in attendance expressed a feeling of euphoria.
This two-day Cazzette party sums up the reaction from their release of “Eject Part 3”. Their debut album has already seen monumental success and recognition and it seems as if Bjorklund and Furrer know how to start off the year 2013 just right. With pending performances at some of the major festivals such as Ultra in Miami, things are continuing to look up for the Swedish duo. If you are not already a fan of Caz- zette, get ready to be converted into this new religion.
