virtually painless treatments to reduce body circumference and cellulite, providing dramatic results with no downtime or discomfort. It combines four different technologies: IR and bi-polar RF heat the tissue up to 3 mm and 15 mm depth respectively. The heating stimulates fibroblast activity and remodels the extracellular matrix, leading to a reduction in skin laxity and volume, and improvement in skin texture. The mechanical manipulation provided by the vacuum and/or massage causes an immediate increase in circulation and lymphatic drainage. ‘Vela targets superficial fat, and warms the dermis. This combination of effects makes Vela a good choice for treating cellulite and for tightening the skin’s surface,’ says Dr Shlomit Halachmi of Herzliya, Israel. Backed by nearly 10 years of clinical experience,

VelaShape™ has been used in more than 3.5 million independent treatments globally. Furthermore, it has appeared in more published studies than any other cellulite reducing technology. VelaShape is an easy-to-use, non-invasive device that

addresses growing patient demand for cellulite reduction, as well as full body contouring and circumference reduction. Powered by the revolutionary elōs™ technology, which couples RF with optical energy, VelaShape™ reduces both skin laxity and volume. Incorporating safe, controllable energy and enhanced penetration, this tool delivers a deep, comfortable treatment with no downtime. ‘VelaShape smooths the skin and fat by improving skin

tone and fat metabolism. It provides non-invasive, painless and effective treatment for cellulite,’ says Dr Chris Inglefield, who has used both VelaShape® and UltraShape® over the last 6 years.

UltraShape®: instant, selective and long-lasting fat cell destruction UltraShape® delivers a safe and effective non-invasive treatment for the reduction of fat, even in stubborn fatty deposits. It offers smooth, uniform body sculpture and impressive long-lasting results in the abdomen, flanks and thighs, for both men and women. UltraShape delivers pulsed focused ultrasound to mechanically (non-thermal) and selectively destroy fat cells at a designated focal point in the subcutaneous fat layer, without harming surrounding structures. ‘UltraShape® targets stubborn fat deposits so we are

able to use it to reshape the body with a non-invasive, painless, no downtime treatment, giving an average of 3 cm reduction per treatment,’ says Dr Inglefield.

What happens to the fat that is eliminated? During UltraShape treatment, the membranes of the fat cells are disrupted. The fat cell content, primarily comprised of triglycerides, is dispersed into the fluid between the cells and transported through the vascular and lymphatic systems to the liver. The liver makes no distinction between fat coming from the UltraShape treatment and fat originating from food: both are processed via the body’s natural mechanisms.

combined with skin tightening.

VelaShape–UltraShape for a complete solution Doctors report that when used in combination, the skin tightening and fat reduction abilities of these technologies give a measurable reduction in circumference. ‘I recommend both technologies for our patients because most need some fat reduction combined with skin tightening, and these two technologies are very complementary,’ says Dr Inglefield. ‘We always use the Vela on the body, thighs or arms to give optimum results.’ Dr Halachmi concurs: ‘Most women have a combination of concerns — extra fat tissue and cellulite, or extra fat tissue and loose skin. The combination of the approaches addresses these two main concerns,’ she says. ‘Further, both are non-invasive and have been shown to be safe, with no downtime.’
