VelaShape and UltraShape provide exceptional results in body contouring procedures. This article explains how

I

T IS ESTIMATED THAT THE TARGET MARKET FOR fat reduction and body contouring is approximately two thirds of the worldwide population. In the past decade, there has been a strong shift towards non- surgical solutions, with both men and women frequently looking to smooth and shape their

bodies safely and effectively. Syneron’s proprietary technologies, VelaShape and

UltraShape, complement each other to answer the growing patient demand for a full non-invasive body contouring solution. VelaShape offers full body contouring, cellulite reduction and even the tightening of loose skin, while UltraShape selectively targets and destroys fat cells in localised deposits in the abdomen flanks and thighs. Both are non-invasive, no downtime and comfortable treatments, with proven results and an excellent safety profile.

What is body fat? A layer of fat occurs over most of the body. It is loose connective tissue composed of adipocytes. The fat tissue is composed of roughly only 80% fat. Its main role is to store energy in the form of lipids, although it also cushions and insulates the body. Subcutaneous fat is found just beneath the skin and has no effect on health unlike visceral fat, which is found in the peritoneal cavity packed between the organs (stomach, liver, intestines, kidneys, etc.) and is linked to metabolic disturbances. While subcutaneous fat can be treated by liposuction, minimally- and non-invasive treatments, visceral fat can be eliminated by diet and exercise only. Typical localised fat deposits are in the lower abdomen, outer thighs, love handles and areas of the body where cellulite is also often present. Most women have a combination of concerns, such

as extra adipose tissue and cellulite, which originate from the deep plane and superficial plane of the subcutaneous fat, respectively.

How can we treat excess fat? Liposuction is the most commonly performed aesthetic surgical procedure and the traditional treatment for reduction of localised deposits of fat. It requires anaesthesia and is not selective to the fat cells; it involves surrounding tissues, causing pain, swelling, bruising and downtime. Despite its benefits, many patients do not want surgery, but prefer a non-invasive method for fat reduction and body contouring that is effective, yet comfortable and safe, with minimal downtime. Syneron-Candela offers a complete treatment for both

cellulite and localised fat deposits combining five different technologies in two complementary devices. The technologies for non-invasive fat and cellulite reduction are ultrasound, radiofrequency (RF), infra-red (IR), vacuum, and massage therapy.
