pler pockets and trim away the center sill. Add spacers cut from scrap as pads for coupler mounting at the end sill. Mark the mounting holes and drill and tap for 00-90. Use ½″ flat head screws to mount the couplers. Drill No. 79 holes at the ends of the end sills to mount wire eyes for the un- coupling levers. The uncoupling levers are formed from .0125″ wire with round nose plyers. They reach under the coupler box.

The model was built in several sub-assemblies. Here they are painted and lettered (above). Rubber bands were used to hold the roof in place while the glue dried (below). The strips of wood on the bottom protect the underbody details from the tug of the rubber bands. With the roof painted and a light coating of weathering applied, the model is complete (bottom).

through the side sill for their mounting. Hold them in place with thick cyano- acrylate and then touch up any areas that need it with the underbody paint. My body bolster differs from that needed by the design of the Walthers truck bolster. Installing the alternate truck bolster from the Walthers kit and filling its wide hole with a short piece of ⁵⁄₃₂″ tubing makes it possible to at- tach the truck with a 2/56 screw and washer. Weigh the car and add interior weight to bring it up to six ounces. The roof braces, cut long ago, are deep to provide some side bracing. Glue them in place now. The sides of the doors provide a convenient brace and location. Scribing on the underside of the roof piece makes it easier to curve. I used .020″ thick styrene with .60″ scribes. It is 55′-0″ long and 10′-6″ wide. Lightly sand the top to remove the shine and give it a bit of a tooth for painting. Set some curve in it by work- ing it between your thumb and fingers. Then pre-paint the edges and border of the underside Grimy Black. Glue it in place. Paint the roof Grimy Black. Lightly weather the car with earth and that’s it. The model of Ma & Pa baggage car No. 44 is now complete.
