dows. Surprisingly, white glue provides a good bond between the plastic muntins and the card sash. The large border surrounding all doors and sash- es is for gluing to the inside walls. Before going any further, it is neces- sary to paint the window sashes and their muntins. I brushed on Floquil Mud to represent a beige color. After painting, glaze the windows by ce- menting clear styrene to the sashes’ backs. (Acetate makes poor glazing.) The doors are both identical, with

The red which has become the stan- dard color for railroad-owned struc- tures on my layout is a mix of two parts Floquil Tuscan with one part of their Tuscan Red. The resultant color is similar to that used by CP on their structures. Next, “rub-stain” the doors and panels, which are both fabricated from one-ply card. This is accomplished using a small piece of cloth saturated with paint. Since this procedure can be messy, I suggest wearing latex gloves, available at most paint stores. Should you wish to achieve a more weathered effect, the paint may be thinned a lit- tle, but in my case it was applied at full strength. At this time, door window sashes and panels may be attached to the pre-painted doors from the inside.

Walls Begin construction by laying out all

Figure 1 illus- trates the method I used for the win- dows which, with the exception of door windows and two windows on the north wall, are double-hung. They are simply cut from the card as two sepa- rate sashes, then overlapped when glued together. I used white glue al-

smaller, single-hung windows will be handled in a similar manner. The window muntins are among the

few parts of this structure which are not scratchbuilt. For double-hung win- dows and the two smaller windows on the north wall, I cut down Grandt Line No. 5009 twelve-pane windows, and for door windows, Tichy No. 2506 win-
