• Many innovation functions spend huge amounts of time and money on launching, branding and creating a hype around an innovation initiative but are then unable to manage the volume of ideas that they are bombarded with; • Effective idea management requires a balance of quality of ideas as well as an appropriate system to manage these ideas; • An organisation should ideally choose a system that is able to easily integrate into its existing IT platform; one that does not require huge development costs, can be managed easily and is flexible to allow changes that suit the organisational strategic shifts; • Careful consideration should also be given to the growth objectives of the innovation function as open innovation may be part of the journey and the system chosen should cater for growth needs; • Idea management tools should ideally incorporate e-learning platforms that will ensure quality ideas and will promote a learning culture.
