The key points will be taken into consideration by the technical panel to establish the level of each sequence/section of the dance. The key points will be determined by the ISU. If the ISU has not already assigned key points for a dance to be skated in an upcoming season, they will be determined by the U.S. Figure Skating Dance Committee. The key points and calling specifications will be announced at the Governing Council meeting prior to the start of the season and posted on usfigureskating.org.

APPROVED – Dance Committee Amend rule 6243 (page 283, Rulebook) and rule DG 5.04 (page 149, Tests Book) to change the required step sequence in the juvenile free dance to a choreographic step sequence with values of a Level 1 step sequence. The choreographic step sequence must fit the definition of one of the required step sequences (circular, midline or diagonal in hold) and fully utilize the ice surface. In IJS events, if the step sequence meets these requirements, it will be awarded a fixed base value and will only be evaluated by the judges in GOE.


118. APPROVED – Dance Committee Amend rules 6031 (A) and 6032 (pages 263-264, Rulebook) as follows:


6030 Music – Dance 6031 For dance events, music is chosen by the competitor except for pattern dances that have not been designated as a “skaters’ choice” dance. A. For pattern dances, the music shall must conform to the type and tempo specified in the description of the dance, except as outlined for the “skaters’ choice” dances, which have their own tempo regulations. See the tests book for the dance diagrams and descriptions.


6032 For tests and nonqualifying competitions, pattern dance music may be either vocal or orchestral, and shall must conform to the type and tempo specified in the description of the dance. For qualifying competitions, standardized music from the ISU must be used with the exception of pattern dances designated as a “skaters’ choice” dance, where the music can be an original piece chosen by the skaters while conforming to the type and tempo requirements set forth by the Dance Committee. The Dance Committee will announce each season, by Governing Council, the music requirements for each of the “skaters’ choice” dances. This will include, but may not be limited to, the length of the allowable time for each dance. For free dance tests and competition and short dance competition see rules 6090, 6095 and TR 51.05.
