.S. Figure Skating’s Program Develop- ment Committee recognized nearly twice as many high school graduates this


spring as last as part of its Graduating Seniors Program. Te panel honors students’ achieve- ments on the ice while they maintain their com- mitment in the classroom. In 2011, the program honored 250 students.


Tis year, 480 graduates earned distinction. “It is terrific to be a part of U.S. Figure Skat-


ing and the recognition that is proudly bestowed on our accomplished athletes,” said Dorothy Tank, national vice chair for school programs. “It is dually impressive to witness the growth of the Graduat- ing Seniors Program from 60 recipients in 2010 to more than 480 recipients this year. Our heartfelt congratulations go out to the Class of 2012.” “It is simply remarkable to see the growth of


the Graduating Seniors Program over the past two years especially, and recognize that we are fortunate to have the opportunity to bestow this honor on so many deserving applicants this year,” said Lainie DeMore, membership group coordinator. Te intent of this is to not only recognize the skaters' ac- complishments in skating, but to also have the award materials presented to the skater in front of his or her peers during a school func- tion or recognition opportunity such as senior award night, athletic awards banquet, spe- cial honors program or graduation ceremony. Te Graduating Seniors Program Award helps to bridge the gap from high school to col- lege and gives skaters a sense of pride for what they have achieved throughout their high school career.
