NA TIONAL P AIRS CAMP

EDITOR’S NOTE: U.S. Figure Skating conducted a national pairs camp in Indiana and a national dance camp in Maryland earlier this summer. Below is a personal account of how the pairs camp went for U.S. intermediate champions Brianna de la Mora and Taylor Wilson, followed by a report from the dance camp on page 31, which featured all fi ve reigning U.S. ice dance champions at the same place at the same time.

HIGH PRAISE PAIRS CAMP RECEIVES by BRIANNA DE LA MORA AND TAYLOR WILSON T

he pairs camp that took place in Fort Wayne, Ind., was helpful and a great ex- perience. It was nice to see old friends

and to make new ones while we were there. We received valuable information and feedback from all the judges and coaches. It was great to listen to Amanda Evora talk about her skating career, and on the ice she was a huge help in learning new

elements. It is always good to hear from someone who has been in our place as a competitor. Practicing our facial expressions in the off - ice class with the judges helped us gain more con- fi dence on the ice. Spending time with the judges in our critiques was also a major help in mak- ing sure we achieve all the levels we want to get for the upcoming season. T ey gave us tips for our program components score and how to stand out among our competitors. T e on-ice classes with the various coaches were fun and challenging. It was exciting to be on the ice with friends as we were all trying to learn new spins, holds and steps to- gether. Many of the move- ments we learned are things we can use in our programs now and in the future. We want to thank Alena Lunin and all the people who put on this camp; they did an

awesome job. We think the camp was a big help for us, because we learned so much in just two days. We recommend any pairs team at any level to participate in this camp next year, as it is a great way to start the season and prepare new programs.
