GRAND PRIX SERIE S P REVIEW
peted several times in Japan, Davis and White spent some of the past two summers performing in Mao Asada’s show titled “Te Ice.” “We love Japan,” Davis said.
“We spent two weeks touring around Japan. Charlie and I have said while we loved Japan before, we feel a lot more comfortable there now. Te audiences are great.” Ashley Wagner is anxious to begin defense of her U.S. title at
Skate America. Wagner, who trains in California and has family in the Northwest, knows from past experi- ence how charged up fans get in the state of Washington. “Spokane is so incredible for
figure skating,” Wagner said. “Te Seattle area will bring that same passion to the sport. I’m excited to be able to go, compete and be the national champion and represent the U.S. at Skate America. Having
such an amazing audience behind you always makes an event so much better.” Wagner is also pumped up about going to compete at Trophée Bompard in Paris, France, where she won her first Grand Prix medal in 2007. “Besides it being one of my
favorite cities in the world, the French fans are incredible. Tey re- ally respect the sport and really get into it. I’m excited to go back. I was young but I had such a great time and was well-received. I’ll go back as a stronger skater with more experi- ence behind me.” It will be his first time at Skate America and Trophée Bompard for
U.S. men’s champ Jeremy Abbott. “I’ve always loved to skate
up there (Pacific Northwest) and have had a tendency to compete well there,” said Abbott, who won his second of three U.S. ti- tles in Spokane, Wash., in 2010. While he has never competed
in Paris, Abbott has trained there and has been free to take in the sights of one of his favorite cities. As a competitor, however, he
said it will be a struggle not to have that freedom to explore the city but looks forward to competing in front of a European audience. “It will be nice to be exposed
to a different crowd and I’m sure I'll really enjoy that,” he said.
