Karin Sherr, a 1999 graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, is one of six individuals named to the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2012–13. Sherr, a national and international syn- chronized skating judge and past chair of the U.S. Synchronized Skating Committee, has continued to give back to the sport that gave so much to her. As the fi rst synchronized skater to be inducted into the Miami Hall of Fame, Sherr is excited about this honor. “Being able to represent my school and my country was an experience that few even imagine, much less get to be a part of,” she said. “I am grateful for the op- portunities the sport has provided and the ability to continue participating as an offi cial.” Sherr was a four-year member of the Miami senior synchronized skating team. The team won the program’s fi rst U.S. senior title in 1999. Scherr completed her undergraduate degree in 1999 and her master’s degree in 2000, while skating her fi nal season at Miami.
The Pueblo Figure Skating Club in Pueblo, Colo., is on the rise with its recruitment of new mem- bers. The club, which skates at the Pueblo Plaza Ice Arena, reported success with two of its most recent events. During its annual skate school, the club set up a booth and provided information about membership. Its holiday exhibition also was a huge hit in attracting new members, accord- ing to club president Tina Goodsell.

It can take several years for ice dancers to pass all of the required tests needed to become an elite skater. It took Otar Japaridze one day. On June 6, Japaridze, who represents the
Eastern European country of Georgia in interna- tional competitions, passed all of the U.S. Figure Skating dance tests, preliminary through gold. He skated a total of 34 times that day. “I’m not sure if it’s a record,” he said. “I just
wanted to challenge myself. There is no ice dance testing in Georgia so it was an interesting experi- ence for me to test here in the U.S.” The Glissad Skating Academy at the Iceland
Skating Rink in Hamilton, N.J., served as Japaridze’s testing location. He skated 23 dances with two partners — Sinead Kerr, two-time Olympian and seven-time British ice dance champion and Morgan Tromp, whom Japaridze and Kerr both coach. “Otar was very easy to skate with as a partner, so for me it was no problem to skate
with him through the higher level dances,” Kerr said. “Because we trained with the same coach (two-time Olympic ice dancing champion Evgeni Platov), we have pretty much the same technique.” Japaridze has been competing internationally for several years. He competed at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games with American Allison Reed. He is currently partnered with Russian skater Angelina Telegina. This accomplishment will be a boost for Japarid- ze as he prepares for future competitions. “I think it will give me confi dence for the upcoming season,” he said.
