Dance Camp in Laurel, Md., featured 46 cou- ples in the juvenile through senior levels, 50 parents and 40 coaches from across the nation. T ey descended on the Gardens Ice House for a weekend of ice dance instruction, demonstra- tions, lectures, feedback, tips and discussions that involved sports psychology, off -ice conditioning, components, on- and off -ice interpretation and performance, on-ice skills, levels on elements and one-on-one evaluations. “T e dance camp is a wonderful program complementing the mission of the Athlete De- velopment Committee (ADC) in developing our skaters,” said Janis Engel, who is the chair of the ADC’s dance developmental subcommit- tee. “T is opportunity for ice dancers to receive feedback early in the season and to have classes that enhance their knowledge and performance capabilities is incredible.” T e camp off ered a faculty of national, inter- national and world offi cials and coaches includ- ing Bob Horen, Charlie Cyr, Janis Engel, Jenny Mast, John Cole, John Millier, Judy Blumberg, Julia Rey, Kat Arbour, Mary Karen Henderson, Nathan Birch, Philip Rey, Saga Krantz, Diana Wisner, Shawn Rettstatt and Dr. Caroline Silby.

of Meryl and Charlie. “Having such an accomplished faculty with the addition of Meryl and Charlie as guest pre- senters really made this camp extraordinary,” said John Millier, chair of the dance committee. “T ere are few opportunities for skaters to have access to this many World and Olympic offi cials so early in the season, in addition to other pre- senters who are recognized as some of the top in their respective fi elds.”


All fi ve reigning ice dance champion teams took part in the U.S. Figure Skating Dance Camp in Laurel, Md. Four-time U.S. champions and 2011 World titlists Meryl Davis and Charlie White were guest presenters for the weekend event.
