Contour prepares for the Air-Lair
The company that wowed visitors with its Not For Wimps concept seat, has unveiled its latest blue sky thinking, the Air-Lair. The clue to the Air-Lair concept is the name – reflecting a product development designed to provide 'a secret place in which a person seeks concealment or seclusion'. Contour Aerospace teamed with Factory Design to create a concept that addresses spacial intimacy. Contour’s technical sales director, Bob Lovell, said: ‘’Contour continues its innovative thinking and is pushing the boundaries in the aerospace industry. Last year’s revolutionary concept seat was testament to the fact that we continue to explore new possibilities in what can be achieved in aircraft interiors and we are excited to continue that tradition with the unveiling of the Air-Lair.”

Singapore rolls out inflight connectivity
Singapore Airlines has begun offering in-flight Internet connectivity on selected Airbus A380 and A340-500 aircraft. The airline is using OnAir, which utilises Inmarsat’s SwiftBroadband service, to deliver high-speed, high-capacity voice and data solutions worldwide. SwiftBroadband provides for a link speed
of up to 432 kbps, as required for the most popular activities. Singapore Airlines has opted to equip the relevant hardware to support both mobile and Internet services. OnAir has confirmed that the Singapore (SIA) superjumbos will eventually get the Mobile OnAir hardware installed and 'working' by the end of this year. Other remaining milestones for SIA-OnAir
will be to add mobile and internet to all Airbus A340-500s by mid-year 2012); to have Mobile and Internet OnAir hardware equipped on their Airbus A380 fleet by the end of 2012; and to have the OnAir product equipped on to the complete fleet of Boeing 777-300ER aircraft (19 in total) within the next two years.

Royal Air Maroc raves about entertainment
Southern California based The IMS Company, has won the contract for Royal Air Maroc's inflight entertainment system. The RAVE™ inflight entertainment system
will be installed in the airline's four wide body aircraft later this year. Each aircraft will have 15-inch displays in Business Class and 9-inch displays in Economy Class. The order follows others for the RAVE™ system from airberlin, Airtransat, Air Tahiti Nui, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa German Airlines and SriLankan Airlines., RAVE™ is a new concept in inflight entertainment that improves upon traditional systems by leveraging the best attributes of both traditional AVOD systems and portable-player IFE. The concept has gained considerable traction in the inflight entertainment industry. The seat-centric inflight entertainment system differs from traditional 'server-centric' systems in that each seatback display unit (SDU) contains all of the content, applications and playback functionality to provide the passenger with audio and video on demand – just like portable solutions. Unlike the server- centric model, which stores content in large disk arrays, RAVE stores content locally at each SDU. In this system architecture, the unit in the seat does not depend on large, complex networks and media servers to stream content.
