TAP Portugal connects on transatlantic routes
TAP Portugal has become one of the first European airlines to offer inflight connectivity on flights between Europe and both North and South America, with the launch of OnAir’s inflight WiFi. Passengers flying TAP’s transatlantic routes
in Airbus A330 aircraft can use Internet OnAir to access the web using their Wi-Fi enabled personal electronic devices, such as iPhones, iPads and BlackBerrys, as well as laptops. Passengers simply pay with their credit card and start surfing the Internet and email. According to TAP Portugal, "Connectivity
is an important part of our service offering, giving TAP a vital competitive edge as one of the first airlines to experience OnAir’s services. Passengers have been enthusiastic users of inflight connectivity whenever they have access." TAP has also committed to deploying OnAir’s services on its planned fleet of A350s. OnAir uses Inmarsat’s SwiftBroadband
and claims the most extensive network of regulatory approvals and roaming agreements to ensure its services are available everywhere in the world.

Emirates makes interfacing easier
Emirates has launched a new, enhanced, Graphical User Interface (GUI) developed by Panasonic Avionics Corporation (Panasonic). This new GUI will make accessing Emirates’ inflight entertainment system simpler to use and puts information, communication and entertainment all at the passenger’s fingertips. The new interface has been introduced
across Emirates’ A380 fleet and will now roll out onto most of Emirates’ Boeing 777 aircraft. It will be available in all classes of service as
an Emirates' standard. As the world’s largest operator of the A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft, Emirates will upgrade all aircraft equipped with the Panasonic eX2 platform. Tim Clark, president Emirates airline said: “Emirates has been tracking the commercial progress of GUIs, where an ever-expanding array of choices are available to consumers, and we wanted to bring the same experience, look, and feel available on smart phones and tablets to our loyal customers in an aircraft environment. Emirates has always been committed to continuous innovation of our ICE systems and to providing our passengers with a unique and memorable onboard experience.” The airline has been working with Panasonic
for the past 24 months to create a smart and simplified interface which will appeal to customers of all ages.

Airvod partnership smartens seat-backs
Airvod Entertainment and TriaGnoSys have unveiled a partnership to provide wireless distribution of Inflight Entertainment content to seat-back screens and passengers’ own smartphones, tablets and laptops, as well as inflight connectivity for live updates. Airvod’s SEATCENTRIC® solution provides each
passenger with self-contained entertainment and a communications centre at each seat. TriaGnoSys’ AeroBTS+ will collaborate on aspects of the airborne network to enable the wireless distribution of content, and inflight connectivity that will be incorporated into the SEATCENTRIC® system. This means airlines will be able to provide updates during flights. Speaking about the new partnership, CEO
of Airvod Entertainment, Terry Bonar said: “TriaGnoSys offers Airvod a new dimension in terms of capability and progression of our operations. It helps ensure Airvod's growing customer base can be guaranteed improved connectivity services and also have a future- proofed system." Axel Jahn, md of TriaGnoSys, added: “By working
