Account manager Alex Rogers introduces an important new section in OnBoard Hospitality
Welcome to the launch of OnBoard Entertainment, the new name for the In Flight Entertainment and Connectivity section of OnBoard Hospitality.
In this issue, Sally Gethin will be reviewing the latest trends from Aircraft Interiors in Hamburg and looking forward to what we can expect from IFEC in the coming years, particularly looking at the advent of built-in wireless servers as a way of delivering content to seat back screens or PEDs. With this in mind I recently trialled
onBoard wi-fi on an SAS flight from London Heathrow to Oslo with some success but also with several periods of loss of connectivity. A reminder that whilst the technology is now available it does not offer the 100% reliable coverage that many will demand. This will improve quickly because of the demand. The percentage of the global fleet fitted with wi-fi is still low but I expect this to grow exponentially over the next 10 years. OnBoard Entertainment will be your
key stop for the latest trends and news on how to keep your passengers entertained in their seat. We will be introducing more industry experts to debate the direction of the industry, look at IFE seat integration, new innovations and more. Stellar Inflight wins Scoot onboard deal
Scoot, the new low-cost, airline wholly owned by Singapore Airlines, has appointed Stellar Inflight as its inflight entertainment content and technical services partner. The medium to long haul airline will commence operations in June 2012 using B777 aircraft linking Singapore initially with Australia, China and Thailand. Under the multi-year agreement, Stellar Inflight will be responsible for delivering all content and technical services as well as advertising sales across the digital and print IFE platforms of Scoot. Stellar Inflight specialises in content creation, programming/licensing for film, TV, music, games, e-books/magazines; and in advertising sales for IFE platforms. It also offers video production, motion graphics and branding alongside a complete IFE technology management and delivery set-up which includes compilation, editing, encoding and duplication. It also provides IFE digital content management.

Row 44 brings innovation to Russia
Row 44 and Transaero Airlines have joined forces to bring innovative in-flight broadband to The Russian Federation. Transaero will offer high-bandwidth and in-flight connectivity services onboard its narrow and wide body aircraft using Row 44’s In-Flight Broadband Entertainment Ecosystem. Transaero Airlines is Russia’s first private airline, and will use the technology to offer a wide variety of in-flight services – ranging from true broadband Internet access to live television, e-commerce, video on demand, and bookable destination services. All services will be accessible through the passenger’s own Wi-Fi devices across the airline’s routes within and from Russia to North America, the Caribbean, Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.
