One prominent supporter has already written to Historic scotland to outline his support for the Great Map to be restored and included in the list of heritage sites in scotland.


Tomasz Trafas, Consul General of the Republic of Poland in edinburgh – whose brother Kazimierz was the leader of the Polish students who built the map in 1975 – wrote: “It is not only a national historic structure that commemorates the contribution of General stanisław


Maczek and his armoured division to the defence of scotland during the second World War, but also a rare symbol of the broader heritage, and a symbol of the cultural links between Poland and scotland since the 16th century that is more than worth preserving for the benefit of the local community and the wider nation.


“The map is hugely impressive and the whole project has the full support of the local community. It has great potential and could be used also for educational purposes that would benefit current and future generations of scots and Poles increasing the understanding of our common history.”

If the Great Map is to be saved for the scottish and Polish people, it needs help from an army of supporters.


The growing team of campaigners will be writing to their MP, MsP, local councillors and other prominent politicians to ask them to appeal to Historic scotland to secure Listed status for the Great Map as soon as possible.


The campaigners would welcome the help of other supporters throughout the country.


also, why not consider joining the campaign? Membership costs just £10 a year for individuals or £15 for families. Voluntary groups can join for £20 and public bodies can take out membership for £50.
