ard Fosland of Black Hills Shooters Supply in Rapid City, I turned the rifl e toward handloads using Norma cases, powders, and the 55-grain Oryx bullets. Richard suggested a test load consisting of 33.5 grains of N 203 B that, when fi red through my Oehler Chronotech 33 chro- nograph, recorded a mild but workable 3,364 f.p.s. at three feet from the muzzle. Shooting an increased 34.0-grain charge of N 203 B moved the velocity up to 3,457 f.p.s., and held accuracy to inside one moa at 100 yards. The plan here was to get a series of handloads together for an upcoming prairie dog/coyote hunt in Wyoming, and also using the load well into the following fall for other targets. With the accuracy status of the
reworked Savage Predator verifi ed, and the new factory and handloaded ammo put together with Norma components, this was a project with both bullets and rifl e that showed a future … as far as I was concerned.
