Multi-tasking

As the industry focuses on the Middle East this month, when many of us attend ITCA Dubai, we stand back in amazement at the seemingly endless growth of the United Arab Emirates’ flag carrier. It would appear to outsiders that Emirates is oblivious to the world recession as it consistently expands its empire with new flight paths and new aircraft. To date Emirates is the largest

user of the A380 with an incredible 90 aircraft in use or on order. Speaking to Dilip Nijhawan, ceo of Emirates Flight Catering, at IFSA in Seattle, he told us his kitchen will be preparing 260,000 meals a day in 2014 from its newly expanded facility. Now there’s food for thought! Seattle was buzzing in September when IFSA, AIX and APEX co-located for the

first time. The event attracted record visitors and having three major players in the inflight entertainment, technology, interiors and hospitality world all under one roof presented a huge source of material and contacts. In a look to the future in his excellent presentation in Seattle, Randy Tinseth of Boeing talked about the growth of airports and high speed rail. “ We can expect to see 97 new airports in China by 2020 and 33,500 new aircraft in the skies in the next 20 years.” That’s a lot of new passengers to feed, entertain and keep comfortable. Is this what we call multi-tasking?
