LONDON HEATHROW AIR CATERER FIVE STAR

TAM extends GSM Olympic sculptures for London Heathrow

Within a year, TAM Airlines’ passengers will be able to use their mobile devices aboard the company’s entire long haul-fleet. The decision to extend OnAir’s services follows

nine months of trials on selected short-haul flights, with passengers making phone calls, sending texts and emails, and using the internet. OnAir’s connectivity services, based on

Inmarsat’s SwiftBroadband (SBB), will be deployed on TAM’s 12 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft (four already in the fleet and eight to be received by 2014), as well as on ten A330s and 27 A350s to be delivered between 2014 and 2018. A total of 80 aircraft will be equipped with OnAir’s services over the next few years. The long-haul OnAir service will be rolled-out

from the second half of 2012. Installation on 31 short-haul planes has already started. José Zaidan Maluf, TAM’s Supply and Contracts

vp says: “Passengers want to stay in touch during flights. There is no doubt that inflight connectivity will become ubiquitous and we are determined to lead the way.” Ian Dawkins, ceo of OnAir, says: “OnAir services

are very flexible, meaning they are the right choice for an airline wanting to equip both long and short range planes, and needing to provide passengers the full suite of connectivity services.” OnAir services operate over Inmarsat SwiftBroadband, providing global coverage. The satellite connectivity to and from the aircraft operated today is provided in partnership with Arycom, Brazil’s main provider of Inmarsat services. www.tamairlines.com

A lifesize wireframe study of Olympic diver Tom Daley is one of 11 sculptures on display at Heathrow Terminal 5 in a preview exhibition celebrating the upcoming 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games. ‘Sculpture and Sport: A Celebration For 2012’ comprises selected pieces from a collection of 30 life-size works, specially commissioned by Art At The Edge and created by established British sculptors. The pieces, each of which interprets a different Olympic or Paralympic sport, will be on display in Terminal 5 Departures until September 30. In addition to Tom Daley, the exhibition

will also showcase a wireframe sculpture of sprinter Jason Gardener and eight bronze maquettes of athletes by artists including Paul Day, John Buckley, Hamish Black, Judy Boyt, Steve Dilworth, Jilly Sutton, Alan Dun and Suzie Zamit. Sarah Lewis, sponsorship & experience manager at Heathrow, said: “As the UK’s largest gateway, Heathrow will be the first taste visitors to the capital will experience of the London 2012 Games. It is therefore a great privilege to cement the airport’s place as a key cultural destination for London 2012 and display these works - which truly celebrate British sporting talent and artistic prowess.” In 2012, the entire collection will be displayed in galleries and public spaces across the country. During the Games themselves the collection of bronzes will be exhibited at the Oxo Tower Gallery on London’s Southbank. www.heathrowairport.com
