3D Theatre at Schiphol BA raises the bar

Schiphol is the first airport in the world to open a 3D cinema. Seated in a special motion- based seat, customers can experience an adventure heightened by sound, wind and lighting effects. There are three ‘rides’: Canyon Coaster takes

you through the Wild West, Jett & Jinn is about a boy and his cat flying through the city, and Snowride takes you across snow-covered ski slopes. New films will regularly be added. The XD Theatre is at Schiphol Plaza. Admission

is restricted to people aged five and over who are at least 1.40m tall, and tickets cost 6 euros. The XD Theatre is the flagship product from

Canadian-based company Triotech and is on trial for six months. Seventy of these theatres have so far been built around the world. www.schiphol.nl www.trio-tech.com www.xdentertainment.eu

British Airways is making a substantial investment in Champagne, wines and new premium vintages on board. The first in the series is Grand Siècle by Laurent-Perrier, which normally retails at £120. This will be available in the airline’s First class cabin for the next year. A new Champagne will also be added for Club World next month. Wines are being selected to match dishes

on the menu, and are tailored to the customer demographic, destination and time of day. Asian routes will see two highly respected wines flying later this year: Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Le Champ Gain 2007 and Corton Bressandes Grand Cru 2008. Last year British Airways purchased 10.6

million bottles of wine. It was recently awarded ‘Best red wine’ for its Argento Malbec in World Traveller cabins in the Skyscanner wine awards. www.ba.com

American Airlines entertains on demand

American Airlines is rolling out an ‘Entertainment On Demand’, in-flight streaming video product. The innovative system will be offered across

the airline’s fleet of 15 Boeing 767-200 aircraft and enables customers to wirelessly stream films and TV shows from an in-flight library to Wi-Fi-enabled laptops. Wi-Fi-enabled tablets and other devices will

also operate with the system in the future. Initially the service is available primarily on transcontinental flights between New York JFK and Los Angeles and JFK and San Francisco – for the introductory price of 99 cents per TV show and $3.99 per film. The in-flight library features more than 100

films and TV show. To view a demo visit: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZ_HyK-FgzY
