He spoke of supersonic aircraft with a quieter


boom when flying twice the speed of sound and of a helicopter mode to lift planes off the runway in airports with little space. Fuel saving and sound reduction are high on NASA’s list of research projects as is new technology for air traffic control and better runway traffic management.


Adopted Charity Orbis runs the world’s only flying hospital which is dedicated to helping the blind. There are 39 million blind people across the world and 80% of blindness is unavoidable. We were shown a moving film of the work of this fantastic organisation which uses a plane supplied and flown by Fedex. www.orbis.org


Fun and games This year, the IFSA Foundation held its first ever bowling and billiards tournament to raise money for scholarship funds. This event far exceeded fund-raising expectations. Congratulations to Alex Oakley and Gordon Oakley, winners of the billiards tournament. Smokin’ of Harvey Alpert & Company took the


top spot in the bowling tournament with a team including David Colella, Pamela Leuthardt, Leslie McCloughan, Paul Normand, Keith Shoemaker, and Lisa Soos.

The DHL/Excel team won the second round


with Bill Barrett, Richard Cawthra, Michael Currie, Barry Gay, James Gill, Chris Jackson, and Shailesh Patel making up the team. Winner of the 50/50 raffle was Ron Ford of Burry Foods, who took home a $940 prize and made a generous donation back to the IFSA Foundation. The final Fun Night was an extravaganza


hosted at the world famous Seattle Museum of Flight and home of Boeing.


IFSA Foundation Scholarship This year the IFSA Foundation received more than 40 scholarship applications – the largest amount ever received in one year. To date, the IFSA Foundation has given away more than $300,000 in award funds. Congratulations to this year’s winners:
