ADVANCED OEM INTEGRATION Continuing the topic of understanding the modern vehicle elec- trical system challenges was Monday’s second session called “Advanced OEM Integration”, again with Schmiedl of NAV-TV and co-presenter Eric LeClerc of AAMP of America. “We really tried to provide some of the best practices for choosing, configuring and troubleshooting interfaces for various tasks in OEM Integration,” LeClerc said. Both Derek and Eric agreed that their number one technical support bottleneck is technicians who are unsure how to accurately identify what kind of databus or low voltage electri- cal system is present in the vehicle on which they are working. “Technical support calls can be heavily reduced by utilizing a lot of the online application guide and configuration resources,” Schmiedl said. As the industry continues to experience integra- tion challenges, both with head unit retention (adding amps/ processors) or head unit replacement, this session provided some important direction on best practices.
