Mindreading: What Our Customers Plan to Do, and What They Think About Us
Highlights from CEA’s “The Road Ahead for CE” presented at MERA KnowledgeFest 2011 by Steve Koenig
2011: Fastest-Growing CE Products No surprise here: Car Audio isn’t listed as a mover and shalker in the CE world. But take a look at what is listed: Tab- lets and Connected TV. The explosion of tablets can have a direct effect on the car environment due to the portability of video content and a large, viewable touch screen. And as connected TV brings online content into the living room, we can ex- pect tosee this same demand in rear-seat entertainment (video content) and in-car audio (Pandora, Internet radio.)
Reality Check: Percentatge of Dollars Spent on Devices for Different “Life Areas” Yep, that small sliver is us, and you see
it’s dropped a percentage point from 2005 to 2011. What has grown are “Anywhere” devices—phones,
tablets and media
products—which are already creating op- portunities for us to develop and install devices that allow them to be used in the vehicle. Side note: CEA predicts 18 per- cent household penetration of tablets by 2012.
