2011 VHA Midwest Regional Rifle Match

Area Coordinator Dallas Walker & Life Member Dave Todd

Midwest Regional State Team championship! Those guys smoked the pack! However, competition was a little closer for the runner-up this year, as Indiana upped itself a notch from last year’s standings. Thank heaven it is at least possible to beat someone from Ohio now. Ha! The newest State Team, Wisconsin, made a respect-

able showing and had a lot of fun in their rookie debut. The competition was extra stiff at the top this time, due to lack of mirage and very light winds. Special thanks to all of the out-of-towners (Terry Bald-

ing, Vern Thornburg, John Meyers, Albert & Stanley Clark, Jim McClellan, John Maxson, Ed Kerns and others who brought and set up tents to keep everyone's equipment dry behind the line. Although the rain largely held off, they did provide some well deserved protection to a lot of valuable equipment on those last couple of relays as it started to pour. Thanks again to Phil French for setting up our dinner

at the Market Street Grill the night before the match. He re- served for 25 people, then increased to 30, and then 31 actually

showed up to eat. But the Market Street Grill in Wabash didn't kick anyone out. And then later, amazingly, over half of that group ended up going on to Culvers for ice cream together (as if we weren’t already full)! This group is the best. Always sharing and playing nice. Thank you for making it so much fun for us all. Our youth certainly are the life sustaining blood of

our sport and special thanks to those who took the time and additional effort to bring your young shooter to the match. They will always remember these as great times and it will endear them to our sport. Youth competitors included Hunter McClellan, Hunter Migedt, and Michael Geier. All three com- peted in both Factory and Custom classes. Junior competitor Hunter McClellan, from Michigan,

swept the Youth class. And, not only did he beat the other Juniors, but he posted the second highest 10-X count of anyone in the whole match. Ohio better look out for this guy when he grows up!
