Fashion | ITALY

-Do you embrace the changes in the industry regarding fashion, film and/or social media?

Some changes are good. Some changes are less good. I think in old times people consumed less. Maybe that was better. (As for films), I enjoy many old films from the 50s and 60s, which seemed very direct in a clever and fun way. Yet we are moving along, and it is great that we can easily make films now on our own. More people can express themselves now, so it probably makes a healthier society.

-Do you like art?

Art is the best. I saw some kids from Berlin dancing in an apartment in Rome, and they went from one room to the other, dancing with very special choreography. Also, my friends in Rome design jewerly, and I love their work. Their store is so interesting, and the line is called Iosseliani. But all art adds to the visual mind and can inspire. Sometimes the strangest things create a spark in the mind.

-If so, why is that? What special quality do you like in their work or personalities?

Roby – the desinger of Iosseliani – is so fun and tireless. Her work is great, and I like her humor.

-In which ways do you think fashion, film, art and design are different and/or similar?

Fashion is more about defining a particular moment in time. It is very much about a moment, a season, and then it passes. It seems to me the best fashion designers are able to capture a mood in the moment. Film seems more about the human soul and feelings, about sharing with others ways to deal with common human frailty and strength. Art seems very personal or very universal. I guess it is similar or different depending on the artist. Design seems more similar to fashion. It is based on the moment, but it aims at been timeless.

“I love the Pantheon in Rome. I love going inside when it rains. There is a hole in the roof (it is designed that way) and the rain falls in the building. I love the space, the sound and to be dry while it rains inside a building.”

-Do you aspire to collaborate with an artist from another artistic discipline?

Yes, collaborations are always good – different points of view always help.

-Do you have a favorite company or exciting other creator with whom you would like to work?

I like to work with graphic designers or other designers, depending on the season and the project.

-Do you follow any philosophical or pschycological approach in creating your fashion designs?

I need the body to move and breathe.

-What is your favorite building in the world? (I love) the Pantheon in Rome. I love going inside when it rains. There is a hole in the roof (it is designed that way), and the rain falls in the building. I love the space, the sound and the ability to be dry while it rains inside a building.

-What is your favorite hotel? I usually rent an apartment so that I can cook.

-What would be your best home?

A home with a big kitchen and a view of the sunset, with some space outside.
