-Do you have a favorite company or exciting other creator with whom you would like to work?
-What is the most fun part of your job?
Shooting. Definitely capturing the images...I try to imagine is the most enjoyable part of the process, and I try to image what the result will look like.
-Do you expect your way of creating and photography to change in the future?
Clearly we’re in the midst of a technological and social revolution when it comes to photography. Almost everyone now has a camera and the number of photos generated is increasing exponentially. At the same time, the technical quality provided by cheaper and cheaper equipment is superb. That will continue culminating in the ability to effectively capture everything there is to see about a place in an instant. The work (and artistic expression) really comes in selecting from what is possible and choosing to make a particular piece of art that represents one’s views, goals, issues, etc.
-Do you embrace the changes in the photography industry regarding social media and digital magazine outlets?
Absolutely. There is no reason to cling to the past when it is clear that this industry, like all others, is evolving. I do, however, think that much too much time is wasted consuming rather than producing, which social internet sites tend to encourage.
-Do you like art? Do you have any preferences for an artist?And/or for creators of artistic work (can also be a chef, designer, photographer, fashion designer or inventor)?
Yes, I enjoy art in all its forms. And I agree with the broader definition of artist – it really can be anyone that applies their creative vision to their work, whether that is for food, painting, clothes or even a piece of software.
-In which way do you think photography, art and design are different and/or similar?
They have different functional goals, but in terms of how they measure up in an artistic sense, I think it depends much more on the producer and the result rather than the particular domain.
-Do you aspire to collaborate with an artist from another artistic discipline?
Not right now, but I’m open to collaborations. Napa Dreamer
I was hiking with my daughter, and it was only when we took a break and started looking around that we realized what a beautiful spot that was. This view near Calistoga really exemplifies Napa Valley and also strongly supports my argument that the sky looks fundamentally different in various places in the world.
Eyes in!
-What is your favorite building in the world? I love much of Frank Gehry’s work, such as the Guggenheim. The California Academy of Science building in San Francisco is a great place both for its green approach and the place itself.
-What is your favorite hotel?
Many: Amandari in Bali (in fact, most Aman hotels), Cipriani in Venice, Four Seasons in Istanbul, Mara Plains in Kenya and Drake Hotel in Toronto.
-What would be your best home?
(My ideal home would be) a small house by the sea with a short walk to great cafes and bookstores.
