-In which way do you think film, art and music are different and/or similar?
I think they are all the same thing really. They are just different mediums for a storyteller to get the story out into the world.
-Do you aspire to collaborate with an artist from another artistic discipline?
Absolutely! I’d jump at the chance to work with Tom Waits. Oooh! Nick Cave also. I love his work.
-Do you have a favorite company or exciting other creator with whom you would like to work?
(I enjoy working with my) hetero life-mate, Scott Stone. We are exact opposites in real life, but our taste in art is identical. This is great because we bounce off each other very well. Almost psychically well. He picks up on things I would normally miss, and I pick up on things he would miss. We have now worked on several projects together, and I think the best is yet to come: Man of Perdition!
-Do you follow any philosophy or psychological approach in making your designs?
I do: Never give your audience permission to look away, and always leave them with something to think about.
-What is your favorite building in the world?
Hmm, I never really thought about it…probably something very old. I’m hopelessly addicted to The History Channel. New buildings feel like pop music. I want to see rust and imperfections, and it has to have a very rich history.
-What is your favorite hotel?
I’ve never stayed in a fancy hotel before, so I can’t really answer this one. I’m going to go with hotels with an in- room hot tub. Or haunted hotels. One or the other will work, but if you know of some place with a haunted hot tub, even better!
-Do you have a dream for the future?
I do. I want to write and direct my own films, with budgets large enough to tell truly amazing stories properly.
-Is there anything else you would like to add to this interview?
Thank you for a great interview, Vivian! These were fantastic questions! Also, we are currently seeking distribution for A Perfect Life. For more information, please see my website, www.chadruin.com.
