Lower School Moving-Up Chapel COMMENCEMENT REPORT
On the aſternoon of Wednesday, June 8th , the St. Anne's-Belfield
Lower School held the first Lower School Moving-Up Chapel – a new tradition that echoes similar ceremonies in the Middle and Up- per Schools. Aſter an opening hymn, David Lourie, Head of School, presented the Lower School Teacher Award to Pre-School teacher Christa White for her "warmth, gentle voice, ready smile, enthusi-
asm, and good humor." Andrew Brennan then presented each Lower School grade for promotion, and students "moved up" to the seating area for their new grade. Lisa Cetroni, Assistant Head of the Lower School, closed the ceremony with a farewell prayer. Fiſth grade teach- ers, including Fred Chandler, Head of the Middle School, were on hand to welcome the incoming fiſth graders to the Middle School.
Lower School Teacher Award ~ Mrs. Christa White
With a deadpan expression, knees out to avoid hitting the handle bars and peddling hard, she is the first to hop on and ride one of the trikes at the annual trike-a-thon. Her students are attracted to her warmth, gentle voice, ready smile, enthusiasm, and good humor. For them, each day brings the excitement of opening her treasure box to discover the next new puzzle they will explore and solve. Like all master teachers, she differentiates her instruction and cre- ates hands-on lessons that challenge and encourage her students to think independently. She is a wonderful colleague who is always quick to help out and, no matter the situation, never becomes flustered or overwhelmed. She values her partnerships with her students’ parents and works closely with them to support their children’s needs. We are pleased to recognize and give thanks to Christa White, the recipient of the 2011 Lower School Teacher Award.
