ALUMNI PERSPECTIVE 2011 Reunion Wrap-Up
Expectations were high for Reunion Weekend 2011. With a record number of both 1946 alumnae (celebrating their 65th reunion) and 2006 alumni (celebrating their 5th reunion) in attendance, we knew the weekend would have to entertain alumni of all ages. Our schedule, full of new and revamped events, didn’t disappoint, proving fun for all alumni, faculty, and friends of the school.
Our annual golf tournament kicked off reunion weekend, followed by one of our premiere events, a wine tour. Alumni enjoyed tastings at both King Family Vineyards in Crozet and Veritas Vineyard and Winery in Aſton. Te enthusiastic group enjoyed learning about and sampling some of Virginia’s best!
Te alumni art show is a tradition for St. Anne’s-Belfield School reunions, but this time we put a casual twist on tradition. With a come-as-you-are dress code and barbecue and fried chicken on the buffet, the gathering was a great way for friends to reunite and recharge aſter a day of traveling. Fritz Berry ’84 announced our honored alumna, Anne-Marie Slaughter ’76, who was unable to return for the reunion but plans to come back to speak with the students in the fall. Rob Trudel ’01 presented our honored faculty member award to
Steve Deupree, who is retiring this year aſter twenty-three years at the school.
Te Saturday morning activities began as an opportunity to revisit the past. Kay Walker Butterfield, school historian and author of Teach Tem Diligently, met with a group spanning five decades for coffee and a visual tour of the past 100 years. Aſter coffee, the crowd took part in another event offered for the first time this year, a lecture by current faculty members. Jordan Taylor and Laura Robertson presented an American Studies take on the Cabaret scene in the 1920’s, delving into films, poetry, and prose to illustrate the era. We were proud to present our stellar faculty to our alumni, and they enjoyed playing the role of student once again.
Aſter a picnic lunch and tour of the Belfield Campus, we were honored to hold the inaugural Gold Circle Dinner, a special event, hosted by Head of School David Lourie, for alumnae celebrating a 50th reunion or greater. Held in Lee DuVal Hall, the evening was a great opportunity for our former St. Anne’s girls to reminisce about their school days in the building that many of them used to call home. Te guests had such fun and talked well into the evening.
