Ann Richards ’59, winner of the Class of 1959 Arts Award, continues her career in the theater. Most recently, she performed in a production of Tennessee Williams’A House Not Meant to Stand at The Fountain Theater in Los Angeles. According to a Hollywood Reporter review, “Ms. Richards is an extraordinarily original creation of an aging sensualist.” Variety writes, “Pure gold as a chatty neighbor.” Ann’s son, Alex Ebert, has also embarked on a career in the performing arts. Alex is lead singer for the band, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.

1970’s

The Class of 1971 enjoyed a great 40th reunion visit! Kim Herson Timms provided a recap: “Libba Brown Williams and I arranged a dinner at Vivace in Charlottesville. Betty Lambeth Gereau traveled from Lynchburg with her husband, Len, and brought all kinds of memorabilia, including the costume worn by Sue Sublett Muse in the ‘Save the Date’ postcard for the reunion. Betty also brought part of the French street scenery from the 1970 ‘Evening In Paris’ prom!! Lindsay Eckford, Kathy Johnson Cooper, and Liz Haile Hayes were the official class photographers. Robin Hunt Benedict traveled the farthest to see us, all the way from New York City. She is fit as a fiddle as she rides her bike to work in Manhattan every day. Former day students Teresa Wright Shaner and Maury Early also joined us. Libbie Hall Farias, a middle school media specialist from North Carolina, traveled to the reunion with Kathy, so they had extra reunion time in the car! Liz and Barbara Kafka drove down from Northern Virginia. They have lived in close proximity for most of the last forty years! The restaurant kicked everyone out after four hours, but the class re-convened at Sunday breakfast for more stories and laughs! The only regret was that many were unable to join us, but we hope everyone has penciled in 2016 and 2021 for the next two big get-togethers!

We extend heartfelt condolences to Frannie McCoy Rollins and Marguerite Waller Nunnally who both lost their husbands in the last two years. Frannie is working as an attorney in Charleston, West Virginia, and keeping up with her two college daughters who attend Denison University (one graduated in May!). Marguerite was a science teacher for many years and is now volunteering and traveling. She has two grown sons.”

In the excitement leading up to their 40th reunion, the members of the Class of 1971 recently emailed updates of their lives since leaving St. Anne’s School. Tricia Boyer is living in Los Angeles where she launched the architecture and design company Unruh Boyer Inc. with her husband, Tony. Libba Brown Williams became devoted to

sustainability and energy conservation early on and now works as an Energy Engineer at the University of Virginia. She is set to become a grandmother in the fall. At the other end of the spectrum is Kim Herson Timms whose daughter, Lizzy, is 16, and learning to drive. Kim's other two children are students at James Madison University and her oldest graduated from JMU's business school on May 7. After 33 years of working for the World Bank in Washington, D.C., Barbara Kafka retired last December and looks forward to the next stage in her life. Liz Haile Hayes and her husband, David, also live in the Washington, D.C. area and are now empty-nesters with their third child away at college. Juliette Brockman caught the traveling bug after graduation and has explored countless locales but also enjoys time at home with her two daughters. Kathy Johnson Cooper has established a popular floorcloths business and just finished her first 100-mile road biking tour. With two adult children, Mimi von Thelen Boggs now has time to pursue her passions: gardening and sailing an Alberg 35 almost every weekend from May to October with her husband, George. Mindy Rice Peters has been a speech pathologist for over thirty years working with both children and adults. Mindy and her husband, Tommy, enjoy living in rural North Carolina and golf whenever they can. Anne Ross Shipe returned to Charlottesville after college. She and her husband, Jim, have one son, Ross, who works in accounting and enjoys golf, running, and biking. Gretchen Borges and her husband, Dan, settled in New York but continue to travel abroad and tango every week. Their son graduated college this May. After seven years in New York working in PR and Editing, Lee Roper Stough met her husband, John, and settled in Louisville, Kentucky, where she has a design firm. They have two children, Johnny and Carter. Dodo Atuk Rouse and her husband, Dan, have sent their fourth (and final!) child off to college and are staying busy. Dodo enjoys spinning and zumba, and Dan rows, bikes, runs, and cross country skis.

Mark McCormack ’76, Teresa Wright Shaner ’71, Marcus Stamp ’79, and Leonard Winslow ’77 made up the winning foursome to take home the prize at the 2011 Alumni Golf Tournament, held on April 29th at Old Trail Golf Course in Crozet.
