PRIVATE FLIGHT HUSH HEATH SSP
Business catering contract
ITCA member Private Flight has announced a new agreement to provide catering services for Gama Aviation’s 80 business aircraft flying in Europe, the Middle East and Europe. After a six-month trial period, Private Flight started the new agreement on June 1; it is something of a breakthrough for them, as it is their first contract with an American-based airline. Private Flight has extensive experience catering for VIPs and the high-end market, including five-star hotels, boutique restaurants, private yachts and residences, as well as private aviation cabin management.

Best Of British
by Sophie Hurford In addition to British produce including Herefordshire beef, Loch Fyne fresh fish and Cropwell Bishop Stilton, British Airways has become the first airline to serve an English sparkling wine for First customers. The wine, “Balfour Brut Rose,” is from the Hush Heath winery in Kent, and the move signifies staunch support for British growers and reduces a carbon footprint. Said Lynn McClelland, British Airways’ head of catering: “No other airline has ever served English fizz to its customers. We are putting English wine-making firmly on the map.” The sparkling wine is available to all First customers on board its flights and in its lounge at Heathrow Terminal 5 between July and September. www.

Serving up more coffee
by Sophie Hurford Starbucks Coffee Company and SSP (operator of food and beverage brands in travel locations worldwide) have announced the expansion of Starbucks’ presence into Norway for the first time ever. Rich Nelson, president of Starbucks Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “Norway has one of the highest per capita consumption of coffee in the world, which presents a great opportunity for us.” Starbucks and SSP, since establishing a partnership, have opened 29 stores in the UK, France, Germany, Switzerland and Sweden and will continue to open stores worldwide. The brand new store will be open for customer use in early 2012 in Oslo Airport. The airport currently hosts more than 20 million passengers per year and this will further increase when construction of Terminal 2 is completed in 2017.
