A380 gets commercial
Korean Air, South Korea’s flagship airline, launched its first-ever A380 commercial flights with inaugural services between Seoul Incheon and both Tokyo Narita and Hong Kong in June. To celebrate the event, special giveaways
such as A380 models, USB memory cards and A380 route map memo pads were given to passengers as mementos. As a surprise, a free A380 flight ticket and 33 more special gifts were hidden in the seat pockets. Korean Air has ordered ten A380 aircraft
with the first five to be delivered by the end of 2011 and the remaining five by 2014. The airline will gradually expand its A380 services to popular short-haul routes in Asia, such as Bangkok in July, followed by long-haul routes to major destinations in Europe and North America, such as New York in August, Paris in September and Los Angeles in October 2011. Korean Air will operate one of the most spacious A380s in the industry. Configured in a three-class layout with just 407 seats in total, Korean Air’s double-decker A380s feature 12 ultra-luxurious First Class Kosmo Suites and 301 Economy Class seats on the main lower deck, and 94 fully lie-flat Prestige Sleeper seats in Business Class on the upper deck. All seats are equipped with the AVOD in-flight entertainment system.

Limousine service for Muscat passengers
Oman Air has joined with Audi to provide a fleet of chauffeur-driven Audi A8s that will whisk passengers from Oman Air’s new First class airport lounge to their aircraft in comfort and style. The new service follows Oman Air’s introduction of First cabins to its fleet in October 2009. Each cabin offers just six seats, a lounge area and dedicated flight attendants. The seats are wide, provide direct aisle access and convert to extra-long fully lie-flat beds. Inflight mobile phone and wi-fi connectivity – which is available throughout the aircraft – dovetails with the latest audio and video on demand IFE system via USN ports, iPod sockets and a huge 23-inch seatback monitor. A la carte dining adds to the exclusivity of the service. In addition, Oman Air unveiled brand
new First and Business lounges at Muscat International Airport earlier this year. First customers can now relax and enjoy fine dining and complimentary massages before being driven to their waiting aircraft.

Splendida gets cooking
MSC Cruises has announced that Antony Worrall Thompson will be cooking on board MSC Splendida next year. The chef, restaurateur, author, television presenter and broadcaster will be joining MSC Splendida in Barcelona on its eight-day Mediterranean cruise on Sunday February 5 2012. Commented Worrall Thompson: “I have always loved messing about in boats, so when MSC Cruises asked me to come on board the MSC Splendida and cook for some of its guests, it was too good an opportunity to miss. I will be demonstrating some of my favourite dishes, plus a couple of surprises that I am preparing especially for the occasion.” Antony is among five of Europe’s top chefs
who will be joining the MSC fleet for a series of special theme cruises. Other chefs taking part are Michelin-starred French chef Gilles Epié, Kolja Kleeberg, Filippo La Mantia and the Michelin star winner Paco Roncero.
