Uniform evolution staff Hapag-Lloyd Cruises extends mobile service
Cathay Pacific has rolled out its new uniform to 13,000 staff worldwide, including 8,000 cabin crew and 4,000 staff working in airports, reservations and cargo teams. Cathay Pacific has changed the uniforms for its customer-facing staff nine times over the past 60 years, keeping the look fresh, current and relevant with an Asian flair. The new uniform is an “evolution” of the existing uniform, building on the signature elements of the current design and, at the same time, making a fashion statement that can stand the test of time. Each design has to last a minimum of 10 years and the design has to take into account varied climates, cultural and religious sensitivities as well as health, security and safety regulations. The airline also took into account the need to minimise the environmental impact during the production of the uniform. The signature features which will be maintained include the red brand heritage colour of Cathay Pacific, the brush-wing logo, standing collar and cuffs and long skirts. The new uniform, which took two years to develop, is designed by Eddie Lau. A project team consulted more than 100 Marco Polo members and 1,000 uniform staff and a wearer trial was conducted over a six-week period to ensure the new uniform is practical and functional for staff as well as meeting all occupational health and safety requirements.

Hapag-Lloyd Cruises passengers can now remain in touch in the most remote corners of the world. The cruise operator is adding OnAir’s mobile phone services, already deployed on MS Europa, to its two Expedition ships, MS Hanseatic and MS Bremen. OnAir’s satellite service allows passengers
to use their own mobile for calls, text messages, email and mobile data. Usage is billed by the passenger’s mobile operator, in the same way as international roaming, making it very simple to use. Paul Goldbeck, director IT of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, said, “MS Hanseatic and MS Bremen take passengers to the most remote parts of the world, including the polar regions, the Amazon, and the South Seas. We are very focused on providing excellent service on board our ships, and with some cruises lasting up to a month… the ability to stay in touch is crucial for all of our passengers.”

Schiphol Award Hasbro kids’ kit for Singapore Airlines
by Sophie Hurford Amsterdam Airport Schiphol came first in the category ‘more than 25 million passengers’ of the “ACI Europe Best Airport Awards 2011.” Nominations were evaluated by a jury of independent experts. According to the report, Schiphol is a model in terms of efficiency, facilities offered, continuous infrastructure development and attention to the environment. The airport was also awarded first prize in the category in 2009. ACI Europe is the European division of ACI (Airport Council International), which looks after the interests of more than 400 airports in 46 different European countries.
