and at one point you laughed at me and said, “Isn’t that funny, nothing’s working!” Super irritating. Kelly: I was being extremely

sarcastic. Obviously, it’s not funny that things weren’t working. But as you say, everything breaks on a boat. And it all happens all at the same time. I guess that’s an irritating way of making light of situations. I’m sorry. I was the most annoyed with

you when you were absent minded. One time you were stressed out and irritated with me because I had cleaned and organized items on the boat and afterwards you didn’t know where anything was. I guess I had moved a couple things around, but I arranged things so that they were organized and made sense. I could have gone through everything with you on the boat so that you knew where things were, so they were easy for you to find. When things were hard for you to find you got annoyed with me. You said, “I don’t know where anything on my boat is!” I had put in a lot of effort to clean and organize things and I didn’t feel at all like it was appreciated. So that made me a little bit frustrated. Brian: I’m sorry about that. I

apologize, I was being a jerk. I’m not well organized and I know I haven’t said it very much maybe but I am very thankful that you have organized the boat. Its actually way better than it was. I had not organized it because I had been pressed for time ever since I’ve had the boat. When you came and put order to all of that stuff I thought, “Oh yes, this is what’s been missing.” Kelly: Next time I organize

anything I will let you know okay? Sometimes if things bother me but I can’t do anything to change it, I just let it go. I don’t always bring it up with the person. I just experience it, then let it slide. I forgive but I don’t forget, I guess.

Brian: So are you forgiving then? Kelly: Yes I forgive you. Do you

forgive me for laughing at your coffee ass?

Brian: I forgive you. It’s funny in hind sight, sure. Kelly: Hind sight! Because the

coffee hit your ass! Both laughing What drove you crazy? What kept

in the future? Kelly: What kept me sane were

routines that we had. I went from four jobs to none, just the job of surviving on the boat, so having routines became important for me. Our eating habits became routine, plotting our course at a certain time and watching the sunset gave us a schedule, a habit. Our afternoons we’d relax after doing projects in the morning. Writing in my log was an outlet for me to be creative and flourish on paper. Some simple pleasures kept me sane. For example, the stars or the bioluminescence, seeing the dolphins, drinking coffee in the morning. Anticipating and planning for our destination, reading guidebooks and Paul Theroux’s, Happy Isles travel book. The countdown kept me sane, seeing the miles slowly tick down and finally having an ETA on the GPS was quite exciting for me. I had a few specific items from

home or acquired on my travels that reminded me of friends and family or places that I had been and these tokens help remind me that I’ve had 29 years of experience in the past and I’m bringing them all into this boat. You are

very generous and quite courteous and respectful so that was encouraging and kept me sane. Brian: What drove me crazy was

some of the days when we were in the last week of the journey, where it felt like we were so close and yet the winds in the Southern Hemisphere were so poor some of the time. I had an idea in my head, “Okay, this is how many days we’ve got left now.” Our first day on the other side of the doldrums we logged a huge number of miles, and I was like “Yes, yes, we’re going to get there even sooner!” Then the next day was just squall after squall and poor winds and I was having to adjust the wind vane all the time and that was driving me nuts. That was not fun at all. I had to revise my expectations for our arrival and we were so ready to be there at that point. We had no fruit left and we were kind of squabbling… Kelly: We’d pop our head out of the hatch and it’s still all water. Brian: Still water, and the tedium

of it was starting to build up. Day after day, we were getting cabin fever. We couldn’t go anywhere. Kelly: One of the things that was

Business or Pleasure, AquaDrive will make your boat smoother, quieter and vibration free.

The AquaDrive system solves a

problem nearly a century old; the fact that marine engines are installed on soft engine mounts and attached almost rigidly to the propeller shaft. The very logic of AquaDrive is inescapable. An engine that is vibrating

on soft mounts needs total freedom of movement from its propshaft if noise and vibration are not to be transmitted to the hull. The AquaDrive provides just this freedom of movement. Tests proved that the AquaDrive with its softer engine mountings can reduce vibration by 95% and structure borne noise by 50% or more. For information, call Drivelines NW today.
