With summer now in full swing, it’s truly a time to celebrate boating in the Northwest. But we’ve also got another reason to celebrate, as 48° North enters it’s 31st year of publishing. Hard to believe, but, thanks to our advertisers and your support, three decades have passed under our keel. Like any voyage, there’s been ups and downs, but the overwhelming joy and satisfaction is what remains, and we’ve got you all to thank for that. Our area is known for its independent spirit, and if that doesn’t define our sailors, I don’t know what does. People from all walks of life set sail, not just on Northwest waters but around the world, riding on the wind toward their own personal nirvanas, and it has been and is our pleasure to bring you their stories. Whether it’s rowing ashore in Tonga to have a snack on the beach, anchored in your favorite spot in the San Juans or meeting with a few hundred friends up at Whidbey Island Race Week for heated competition and cold beer, it’s all part of the tapestry that we’ve been privileged to weave for the past 30 years. Any ship is only as good as its crew and with Cai, Karen and Michael, we’ve got a skookum group. And our advertisers, who bring you 48° North for free, certainly deserve massive credit and thanks for allowing us to tell your story every month. Our most wholehearted thanks go out to you all. Okay, enough of the past and on to the future, much of which we’ll be able to see at the Lake Union Seattle Boats Afloat Show this month. We’re looking forward to that new boat smell, and going over boats that are available in our area for the first time. Please drop by our booth and say hello. Lord knows we’ve enjoyed meeting a boatload of people over the years and, as sailors are wont to do, it’s always fun to swap yarn or two. See you there!
