New Coney attraction opens its doors

SCREAM Zone, a new Coney Island amusement park including four thrill rides in New York, US, has been opened by Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Central Amusement International. The park features the Soarin’ Eagle roller
coaster, the Steeplechase, the Sling Shot and the 100ft-tall Zenobio ride as part of its offer. It is expected that the new attraction - to be run by CAI alongside the year-old Luna Park - will attract hundreds of thousands of visitors to Coney Island each summer. The City of New York has acquired three
parcels of land totalling 6.9 acres and has awarded a 10-year lease to CIA for the operation and build of the amusement parks.
Kennedy Space Centre to house space shuttle
NASA officials have announced that the Kennedy Space Centre Visitor Complex, located east of Orlando, Florida, has been selected to permanently display the space shuttle Atlantis upon the retirement of the Space Shuttle Programme. Atlantis, one of three orbiters in the space shuttle fleet,
will fly the last scheduled space shuttle mission before being retired in 2011.

Mayor proposes to help re-open Kentucky park
GREG Fischer, Mayor of Louisville, Kentucky, has announced plans to issue US$17.5m in bonds to help re- open Kentucky Kingdom. According to the Courier Journal, Fischer called the
proposal a “responsible investment” at minimum risk to city tax payers and also fair to developer Ed Hart, who heads the group that has been granted the rights to try to re-open the park. Kentucky Kingdom has sat idle since 2009, when
it was abandoned by the previous operator, Six Flags Entertainment Corporation.
