World expansion for Park Games


PARK Games Equipment hit the ground running in 2011 by launching some of its most exciting products to date. The Malaysia-based manufacturer of children’s play


equipment has brought several new products to market, including the Dome rope climber, Hex Challenge, the Durian, newly launched space-themed integrated sets which have been confirmed for several new projects and the VTX rope structure series. According to the company, the new launches have


received “overwhelming responses” in its domestic market as well as other territories including Singapore, Thailand, Japan and the Middle East. “With these new items, we hope to make the parks


an enjoyable meeting place for everyone and encourage healthy physical and mental growth among children,” said Park Games spokesperson Irene Sim. “Product research and development has always been a very crucial goal for our company to ensure that our customers’ needs are addressed and met.”


Happylon debuts in St Petersburg


A NEW children’s amusement park belonging to the Happylon chain of venues opened in St Petersburg’s, Russia, Galeria shopping mall on April 23. The 4,500sq.m, US$430,000 park has been designed


as a “Pirate Treasure Island,” in which visitors can choose from 10 rides, video simulators, more than 100 video games, laser tag, mini bowling and a 5D cinema. Younger children who visit the theme park can play on


roundabouts, bumper cars and other attractions. Rustam Ageyev, founder of the Happylon chain, said


he intends to open venues in at least 15 of Russia’s biggest cities.


Nigeria plans to boost economy with new resort


CONSTRUCTION has started on the Delta Leisure Resorts, a tourism and leisure facility being built in the cities of Warri and Asaba in Delta State, Nigeria, which will be the first of its kind in West Africa. Through its Africa and UK divisions, global attractions


giant Sarner will design and create the leisure resorts, which will cover over 150ha in each city at an estimated cost of NGD49bn (US$315.9m). The main park, located 20 minutes from the airport


in the Oleri village in the Udu Local Government Area of Warri, will reflect the culture of the area while providing a place of escapism, enjoyment and fun and is set to include a waterpark, three- and five-star hotels, luxury chalets, a casino, a golf course, historical attractions, a family entertainment centre and children’s area, sports facilities, a spa and retail stores. The Oleri Bridge, which is currently under construction,


will link the park to the main road network for ease of access. Princess Abiodun Oyefusi, managing director of Sarner


PFM, commented: “The Delta Leisure Resorts will be a unique attraction for Nigeria helping to draw visitors to the area from across Nigeria, the surrounding countries and beyond. The increase in tourism will create new job opportunities and help with the development of the country’s infrastructure.”

TOKYO DISNEY REOPENS TOKYO Disney Resort reopened Tokyo Disneyland Park and Tokyo DisneySea Park in April. Both resorts were temporarily closed from March 12 following the Great East Japan Earthquake. According to Disney, the parks continue to make every effort to conserve the use of electricity in their operations. Furthermore, a portion of ticket prices is being donated towards the relief and recovery of the disaster-affected areas.


THE DINOSAURS ARE COMING IN conjunction with German prehistoric model design specialist Bernd Wolter Design, UK-based DP Associates is now offering temporary dinosaur exhibitions as a new attraction for almost all kinds of visitor attraction and other leisure venues. “We can put a dinosaur exhibit into a venue as a visiting exhibition for any length of time without the need for large capital outlay,” explained DPA managing director Duncan Phillips. “Theme parks, farm parks, stately homes, country parks, shopping malls and numerous other sites can all benefit from the proven popularity of dinosaur exhibits.”


MAURER COASTERS INSTALLED AT MAGICLAND On May 26, the gates opened to the new Rainbow Magicland Amusement Park near Rome, Italy. The huge park extends across an area of 600,000sq.m, and Maurer Rides has supplied the resort with two of its flagship products - an X-Car Launch Coaster and a 430m Spinning Coaster.


NEW EFFECTS THEATRE FROM SIMWORX A NEW 4D effects theatre from UK-based specialist supplier Simworx has opened at the RAF Museum in London. Installed within a free-standing enclosure built by Simworx, in the museum’s Historic Hangar building, the new theatre allows visitors to experience a variety of aviation content which provides the history of aviation in stereoscopic 3D.
